We had more wonderful rain last night and it is really helping along the garden! Also helping cut down on my need to water which is wonderful!. A couple of nights ago, we enjoyed our first harvest from the veggie garden: RADISHES...I know, they are always the first things, but still exciting:
I cooked them up, greens and all with some salt, pepper and olive oil and they made a great side dish to go with our rotissiere chicken.
I also had a chance the other day to work on some weeding and capture some recent happenings in the garden:
The Clematis (that we planted when my oldest daughter was born 2 1/2 yrs ago) is looking great this year:
My miniature rose bushes are in full bloom right now and just such a sweet accent in the front yard:
The front perennial bed is just bursting and the daylilies have just begun:
The annual planter that my girl and I planted up together is filling in nicely and really looks good when she hasn't picked all the flowers off - HAH!
All the rain has certainly helped along the weeds too...so when I have a chance I will get to some of those in the front yard as well, to keep things tidy. I am still enjoying the results of working so hard over the winter and not having as much to do right now, except enjoying the garden and watching things mature and fill in :)

Cooked radishes? I've never heard of that! What do they taste like cooked? Like a turnip? Wow! What a person learns here! The clematis is beautiful-I can't get mine to get too far out of its pot(..)

cooked radishes are actually really good...it takes some of the bite away...the greens are a bit like a cross between spinach and kale, very earthy.
usually, the clematis is pretty puny...this past fall, i finally pruned it correctly, cutting it back to about 6 inches ( i was so afraid i had killed it) but, it worked :)

Beautiful and wonderful! Love your pixs.
Esp those mini roses! Does that mean they are minature rosebushes or the flowers are small?

tell you the truth, i really don't know what they are supposed to be called. i was given them many years ago by a friend who didn't want them, so i have never known what they are. the bushes are about 2 feet tall by 3-4 feet wide and the flowers are only about 3/4 to 1 inch wide...

Thank you for sharing all your wonderful pictures. I never cooked radishes, but why not, I will in the future. I've cooked rag weed and it is a tasty dish. I'm not kidding, an old man I gardened with showed me a lot of wild greens that are edible. You probably heard people talk about polk salad. If you harvest polk as it is just starting to come out of the ground, about 8 inches, cut and prepare like asparagus.
Y'all have a great day and happy gardening. The Hillbilly

I'm still um-Earthed!!!!!! Cooked radishes I won't have any until November, now, but how do you do that? And I don't want another vegetable yea, answer! I need meat, and greens or tomatoes with this, right?

It is always fun to see the first flower or eat the first veggie.I am only going to have tomatoes this year. I am still working on a veggie spot.It going to take bushels of compost to get the soil so it will grow even radishes. Your gardens are lovey.

linda - yup, that baby is in the "ergo" (snuggli) a lot so that i can check out the garden :) I am also very blessed that my hubby works the early shift so he is home by 4 and is a BIG help to me, letting me have some "me" time.
carolyncat: try googling radish recipes...you will be amazed at the possibilities: thats what I did, b/c one can only eat so many crunchy radishes with dressing - LOL!
