What a weekend, we finally got the back yard cleaned up. Mom came over and we took a bunch and I mean a bunch of old paint cans to the hazardous waste site. She had some and I had more and we drove downtown and found the site really easily and they just take them and dispose of oil and paint and any of that stuff. The cans were out by the deck, getting all rusty so I was glad to see them go.
Then Saturday, we got up early, before it got too hot, but it was already hot by 10am, and loaded up the van with old wood scraps in the yard that we had been saving from the on going remodel. We had some of this out in the back yard, rotting away and
generally not very appealing to look at. We took a bunch from the house
too. Some we saved for firewood, but rarely have a fire and if we did, we would have had enough wood scraps for 1000 years. We have no room to store that much so it was time for it to go. We got our printout from the dump and had 980 pounds of construction. Once the sun started setting we could rake the backyard and it looked half way decent.
Its not a big space, as we live in the city and the neighbors are real close but we have a small pond, a few flower beds and two decks. The yard is somewhat shady. My husband is happy to have a small vegetable garden this year with tomatoes and herbs. I wanted carrots, but we had a late start and they didn't get in.
Once the yard was cleaned up I planted a couple of daylilies by the pond. I have a bird bath that we need to set up now that I moved it to by by the pond, day lilies and tall grass. I think the birds will like it, the pond went in this summer and the bird bath has been off since.
