Friends last year, gave me a frangipani for christmas, 2010, which was lovely, but..... Frangipani's need a lot of sun and I am not sure my backyard quite gets enough. My friends grow several and are very successful with them. Mine losts its leaves very late in April/May and hasn't grown new ones. A worry!!!. It has developed a huge flower head and I hope going to flower.
It is in a pot in the sunniest spot I have in my garden, I put white stone as a mulch to keep it warm over winter and then a few weeks ago, dumped on some cow manure, because I read on a frangipani website they like cow maure.
Well it is very deep in the pot and with the stones and cow manure the trunk was about 5-10cm covered with all this material. BAD! stem rot, so I cleared it off last night and it still has no leaves.
I have seen my friends like this, but can't work out why it happens.
It is such a stress, if it dies I will never hear the end of it from my friends. We are competitive and I am professionally trained and my friends are very good home gardeners.
So at least I have fixed it is planted tooooo deeply and I wish the dammm thing would grow some leaves!!!!!
I find when I start doing lots of remedial things, it is a sign, that things aren't going to go well.
