Well, now that my new garden is finished for this year,I'm going to get into kayaking. We have a few nice lakes nearby and I love the water.I'm going to start looking at some sporting goods stores and see what I need.I see that some kayaks are lighter than others.I wonder if I'll be able to fit in in our mini van(I think I could if it's not over 10 ft.I have no idea how long they are or how heavy.Hopefully, one person can lift it.If any of you know anything about kayaking, please let me know.Bsmitch gave me the idea after I saw a pic of his wife kayaking on his blog.By the way, thanks Bill.... I finally have my new bed out back, finished. The arbor is up,the plants are in and the stepping stones are down, whew!I did cheat this year and had topsoil and mulch brought in and spread by a landscape company.I just couldn't manage it after pulling the muscles in my gut earlier.I did however, lay down the stones(not too bright)but I wanted them down, like right now,and no one was around to help me.Funny how that seems to happen....
The garden looks so bare now,but next spring everything will have filled in.I never put mulch down the second season,I like for my flowers to self seed. So, hopefully it will look alot better by then.I'll post pics soon.Hope all of your gardens are up and growing.I love to look at them all, post more pics please.....
This was a fun day.I had the kids and grand kids over for brunch. It was too chilly to eat outside on the porch,so we all ate inside.I was hoping for a warm day.Oh well, it was still a good time.I love the sounds of laughter and all the commotion and noise.Call me crazy...
I finished my new garden bed, weeded the others and sprayed" malathion" on a few shrubs that were being eaten.I usually go organic when at all possible, but this was the only alternative....
I've been going to the dollar store for garlic powder. This is a great deterrent for keeping rabbits from eating my plants.I sure would hate to see my new roses gone....
My lettuce is doing well ,so are the strawberries.I put bird netting over those. It's a constant battle of the wit's between me and all the critters around here.Thay usually are smarter than me and manage to get some of the stuff in the garden....The only animals I have beat are the hawks.I strung fishing line back and forth across the chicken run(it's 2 large dog kennels connected)and they can't fly down to attack the chickens or they would get caught up in the line. That's one of the best tips I've ever gotten....
My husband just finished mowing .He wanted to get it done before the rain. It's amazing how fast it grows in thespring. It looks so beautiful and green now.Come August,it will look like straw...
Well, I can finally work in the garden again. The pain from the pulled muscle is finally gone.Of course,I forgot and lifted a heavy, dirt filled pot today.I 'll know by morning if I've hurt my stomach again.I didn't even think,I just carried the pot across the deck to the other side...
I transplanted alot of perennials to my new bed out back in between the showers. When i finally came in ,I was soaking wet.Actually, it felt good.I was getting so hot and I was absolutely filthy.I took a long, hot bath and put my p.j's on.It was only 6:00,but I wasn't going anywhere,so I thought I'd might as well relax...I hope I can get the annuals I started inside, out in the garden(hope it doesn't frost)I always get seedlings out too early and have to cover them. Why is it I can't wait until May 15th to plant them like a smart person would do?
Tomorrow evening we're watching the grandkids while our daughter & SIL go to a cook-out down the road. We're taking the kids out to eat and then maybe the park or a movie. They're 3,6 & 9 yrs old.The 9 yr old girl wants to see the "Hanna Montana" movie and the boys want to see "Monsters & Aliens" I don;t know how we'll work that out....
This old Gal is really beat, time to hit the sack.....
