It's a better day!

             I feel better than I did yesterday.I'm sure the pain in my  stomach was a pulled muscle.It still hurts,but it's 90% better than before.I was so scared it was a hernia or something worse.I just need to take it easy for a couple of more days.I sure won't be lifting anything heavy  again,until I forget....

               The rain held off this morning.The guys were able to put the top soil on my new bed and mulch it.It looks so nice.I 'll be ready to plant soon. My DH and I are taking a week trip in the motor-home ,leaving on Sunday or Monday.We really need to get away for awhile.....

               My new bed has 3,ornamental" prairie fire" crab apple trees, and I'm putting an arbor with climbing roses(thornless, 'Zepherine Droughin"on each side.I bought 2 double "knock-out rose shrubs (pink) and" sweet autumn" clematis. to put at the base.I'll transplant perennials from the other gardens and I think I'll get  3 more "knock-out roses and 3" Miss Kim" korean lilacs.Maybe 3 alberta spruce too.Of course,then I'll need stepping stones,a fountain, and bench. My gosh,this could put us in the poor house.I'm sure my DH will have alot to say about this....I can hear him now,"enough already!"Actually, I'll be checking out garage sales and flea markets.I lucked out last summer at a barn sale.The folks were moving and had tons of stuff.I got a beautiful garden cart(potting table on wheels)a bench,pots, tons of cottage garden stuff,and  chicken decor. Old painted signs,all outdoor  country,cottage decor.I use it all to decorate my potting shed.I have chickens,so I love anything poultry.

                I'm going to take,Before and After, pics of my new bed.I'll post them soon.At least the before...

Mulch delivered today....

The mulch was delivered today.The guys spread it ,but have to come back tomorrow to bring top-soil for my new bed.I can't really plant for awhile though,with the pain in my stomach.I am so mad I did this to myself(lifting ) and now,I can't do much of anything....I sure hope it doesn't rain tomorrow,like predicted...

    Went fishing with SIL, had a good time .We only caught 5 fish though.I really didn't care,I just  enjoyed looking at all the beautiful homes on the lake.It was a perfect day.We left at around 3:00pm.We were out there for 8 hours.Too long out in the hot sun.I used sun- screen, but I think it was old(last years still in boat) I got burned again..... The  Canada geese were so loud,I guess they're mating or something.They were fighting and really carrying on.I love nature,but  their honking was maddening.There were hundreds of them....

         When I came home I had work to do.I lifted 50lb bags of chicken feed,bales of straw and some huge pots with soil in them.I was just bragging the other day about what good shape I'm in.Well, today's a different story.I feel like I have a pulled or torn muscle in my gut....It really hurts! I  wonder if a woman can get a hernia.It's okay sitting down,but walking or getting up from  a chair is really painful.I hope this goes away soon,I have work to do...

            Got up early this morning.My rooster was crowing at 5:00 am.I'll bet our neighbors hate us! We're the only ones with a rooster around here.I cleaned the coop,it smells so good now.I washed down the walls with lestoil and put down fresh wood shavings and straw in the run.I have to admit it looks and smells 100 % better. I clean it out every week,but slacked off for a couple when I was transplanting my perennials.

              I helped my daughter plant perennials we divided today and then we put down a truck load of mulch in her beds.We had a little left over and put it in the Japanese garden.It wasn't nearly enough though,we need more.The problem is, I can't afford anymore....thats probably good,my back is so  sore,I do pretty good for an old gal!

               My son in law just stopped over to see if I want to go fishing with him in the morning.6:30 comes pretty darn early!He wants to have the boat in by 7:00 am, Of course I said ,yes.He did put up shutters for me today .He had to climb up thirty feet and it was really windy... I told him I'd repay him by cleaning up his barn.He has a bathroom in it,and it's really,really, discustingly filthy.So it needs cleaned and sanitized.... He said we'd be home by noon,if the fish weren't biting.I hope so,I'm so sun burned from today,I'll have to wear my ball cap and slather on the sun screen.I didn't use any today,and now I'm paying for it....

                 Hope my next entry is about the huge,fish I caught.ha,ha,

            

April 22,2009 My Birthday!

           I had a great day! My daughter and I went shopping,the garden center, and out to lunch.It was a good birthday.I couldn't have had more fun. I bought 3 huge ferns .Actually, I got them at Walmart for $12.00, they were a steal....I still can't believe it.Give me a deal and I'm happy.... I rushed home after lunch and planted them in large pots on my porch.They look so pretty....

           Tomorrow,my husband and I are going to  dig and bury the electric lines out to my potting shed.An electrician will put the outlets in the shed for me.The grand kids will be able to play in there after dark this summer and I'll be able to start plants in there next year.

             I was looking out my upstairs office window thinking how beautiful lush and green everything is,when all of a sudden I saw three rabbits playing in my garden thats surrounding the shed.Actually, they were eating the plants that have just come up....I'll have to sprinkle garlic powder around tomorrow.That is a trick I've used for years.It works,only problem with that  is,I have to do it after every rain.I usually buy big jars of garlic from Sam's club,it's cheaper that way.It smells horrible tho,I can see why the rabbits don't like it.It also works to keep away deer and ground hogs too.

            Tomorrow, I plan on  putting compost(top dressing) a few beds and weeding and moving some perennials.

I'll try and remember to take a few pics if I'm not too worn out.I need to post some new ones.

            "  Oakland  Nursery"called and said they'll deliver and spread the mulch Monday and Tuesday.I can't wait,it always looks so good with fresh mulch.I even like the smell,call me crazy....

               My allergies are killing me.I thought the rain would wash the pollen away.I still have a terrible headache,owwwwww.  Guess I just have to take my allergy meds and go to bed.They always make me sleepy....

 

          

April 21,2009 another rainy day....

             I want the sun to shine! It's raining again,the week-end looks like it's going to be sunny and warm.It's about time,I want to get started on planting perennials. this week.I guess I can wait a couple of more days....Tomorrow ,the 22nd is my birthday.It's also Earth Day.I think that's appropriate since I love gardening and nature...

           Tomorrow my daughter and I are going to Oakland Nursery,to buy plants and shrubs for her new beds around her porch.Her little ones will be sad she's doing that, they were having a ball playing in the new topsoil...I had to move all their dump trucks and tractors from my new bed too.Give a little boy a mound of dirt and they're in heaven.

             Hopefully,it's not pouring  down rain in the morning.It's no fun walking around  looking at plants if you're cold and wet(with a three year old)Here's hoping Grandpa will baby-sit while we make our trip to the nursery....

             I turned the compost pile while there was in loll in the rain today.The duck and chickens went crazy with all the worms I turned up.I always let the chickens out when I can supervise them.They have been known to tear up my flower beds and eat the new plants that are coming up.They can really destroy things fast....I learned the hard way last yearThey love to take dirt baths in the mulch.They scratch it all out and make a real mess....

              Well, it's time for my favorite show,Deadliest Catch.I'm really into it....Hopefully,I have something interesting to write tomorrow.....

        Well, today was a cold,rainy,dreary ,day. It was a good day to clean  up my potting shed.I love that little place.It's only 12 x16, but it's my private little get away. I'm having electric run out there so I can plug in lamps and have a fan or heater when needed.I  took a portable radio out with me today,it helped cheer things up a bit. I let the cat in to visit with me,he loves it in there too...Someday, I hope to paint the inside white and get a wicker sofa and make it into a more comfortable hide out.We have a loft for the grandkids to play in with small green wicker chairs and  little shelves for their books.Thats one reason I need electric in the shed,it's dark in the loft...

           I had topsoil delivered today for a new bed I'm making out back.It started pouring down and they were only able to dump one truck load.They'll be bringing a second load when it dries up.I really don't want a big truck driving thru my yard ,tearing up the sod  and making ruts....I guess it's a given,if I want the soil...

            Oakland  Nursery is coming to put down mulch on the 1st of May.I  wanted to wait until it gets warmer and  the perennials are up. I can't wait to plant annuals,I have tons of seeds I saved from last years gardens.I love old fashioned zinnias,cosmos & marigolds .

             Here comes another storm moving thru,it sounds like it's going to be a doozy! That topsoil won't be coming anytime soon it looks like....oh well....

              Still thinking on ideas for the Japanese garden,it's still a work in progress.It's a very pretty tranquil space,just not quite finished...
