Please join with me to wish my sister a Happy Birthday. She turns 50 none of your business today! She is a good gal and not only my sister but a friend too (there is a difference). I hope she has a great day. Love you Carolyn.
Here is a picture taken of her, her son Clint and his girlfriend Suzy just before Christmas 2009.
Here is a pot of tulips from all of us at Garden Guides to you, a very special member.
My time off this week was very short. I only had 3 days out of my 7 off to do anything around the house. Actually it was only 2 days because I don't do much work on Sundays. Got to have one day to rest up and be lazy. I had to work out of town and attend a week long session on Process Alarm Management. Which is just MORE Government Regulations that are being forced down to Pipeline companies; just something else that will be passed onto the consumer by the way of higher natural gas prices.
I did manage to plant 12 Bell Peppers, 6 banana peppers and 6 cayenne peppers. I worked my potatoes and planted some more onion sets. I had lost some of the first ones I planted. My snap beans have not broken the ground but at least the seeds are still there. I planted some radishes about a week and go and some of them are coming up. My seedlings are looking good but need to be put in the ground. I have to try and get them outside this week so I can plant them when I get off next Tuesday.
I also bought a truck load of mulch and freshened up my flower beds and did some trimming on the stuff we lost due to the cold weather. It looks like I may have lost my cumquat tree too!
Well that’s about it other than waiting on my next set of days off to get more of my garden planted. I hope to start a new flower bed soon. I am ready to do some camping, fishing and crabbing too. So much to do and just so little time lol. Crawfish prices are still out of sight.
Take it easy and hope its warming up where you are..Pete
I think I can say SPRING is arriving in South West Louisiana. I am so ready for some nice weather! I mowed my yard yesterday and did a little yard work. It was nice to be out there cleaning things up and getting things looking better. The yard had tall weeds sprouting up all over the place. I raked up some of the leaves from my oak trees to use as mulch in my garden this year. I will again use shredded paper and shredded newspaper in-between my tomato plants. I think the shredded paper worked well last year. So I have more this year. While out and about I noticed my pear trees are blooming and that the Purple Martins are checking out the houses. I so enjoy watching them fly around. I remember as a kid sitting with my dad as he read the newspaper, drank coffee and watched the Martins fly around a Jimmy rigged bird house he put up.
Kyle starts his new job March 15th. He goes to work for Lake Charles Police Department. He learned a lot while working at the Sheriff Department but if he is going to make a carrier out of law enforcement it was time to move on. We are very proud of him and wish him well with his new job. I know he will be busier than he was while he worked at the Cameron S.O. but at least his back up will not be 20 to 30 minutes away and that I am thankful for.
My potatoes have finally started breaking the ground. I planted them on my mom’s birthday February 19 and was starting to wonder if they had rotted. So I was happy to see them coming up! I also have my onions in the ground; about half of them appear to be doing well the other half I am not so sure of. I may need to buy another bunch. We used up all we put up last summer except about a half of a gallon. Those won’t last long. I planted some mustard too and it is coming up.
My tomato seedlings and watermelon seedlings are doing well. I repotted most of them out of the small containers that are in the seed starter kits. I hope to get the watermelon plants in the ground in another week or so. I am still concerned about another frost before Easter. But after that it should be smooth sailing.
I have some plans to expand the flower beds around the house and I still have not decided where I will plant those grape vines I bought. I have to work out of town most of next week. I am not happy about that as the weather is supposed to be very nice. Oh well I guess there will be other days.
I hope the pics all make it. For some reason I always loose one or two in transit…LOL. They all can be seen in my photos under March 2010. Hope you are staying dry and warm. Later Pete
