Muck Boots that is. I have been wanting a water proof light weight boot to work in my yard when things are a little wet. I thought I was gonig to have to order some online but when I went to Currie & Son to buy my seed potatoes I saw what I have been looking for. They are great but a little on the expensive side at $70.00 a pair. They also have water proof shoes there too. The shoes are around $50.00 a pair. I thought I might as well get the boot style to give myself a little more protection. They just slip on and off with ease! If you are interested in Muck Boots they have a website just google it. Here is a pic of mine. I don't think I have been so happy about rubber boots since I was a kid and got my first pair of RED RUBBER BOOTS! LOL.
Well it is just pouring down rain here at my job. So glad that for the most part I work indoors. I was able to buy 10 pounds of really nice seed potatoes yesterday they have really good eyes on them. And I also purchased some tomato seeds to try and start plants again this year. I had a good start last year but they did not make it. I had the starter kit in the wash room on top of the dryer. Well the youngest son in a hurry as always and running late took some clothes out of the dryer and threw a towel on top of my plants. I just recently found this out. I wondered why my plants had all of a sudden just laid over! I hope to save a few bucks by growing my own. Plants have really gone up the last couple years.
This much rain will probably keep me from working my ground when I get off next week. The good thing is my next 7 for work is on nights so I can get up and possibly till or even get my potatoes planted. My maw maw told me my grand paw always had his potatoes planted by Valentine’s Day.
I will take the rain over the snow....I just don’t want any freezing rain and I don't think we are in any danger of getting any of that stuff with this front. The weather man said the front has slowed down so we might be in for several inches and a light freeze Saturday night into Sunday morning. Take care and stay dry. Pete
The weather the last couple days has just been great around here and has really given me SPRING FEVER. I wish I were on my days off again! When I drove home yesterday afternoon around 5:30PM I noticed that Mr. Duhon had plowed one of the areas he normally plants his potatoes in. He is a retired school teacher and has supplemented his income by planting vegetables for as long as I can remember. Boy looking at the plowed ground sure made me want to start plowing my garden too! The bad thing is the weather man is calling for freezing temps again on Saturday night. But that’s ok I won’t be off until next Wednesday Feb 3rd so maybe by then I can get my tiller out.
I was able to do some work in my yard my last 7 days off. Pulled some dead weeds and dug up a wild tallow tree who took up residence next to my shed. We had rain a couple of the 7 I was off and two days were spent changing out the rotten floor boards on my utility trailer. I thought I only needed to change out 2 boards but after a closer examination I elected to replace all 11 of them. Kyle came over and helped me out. Now I need to buff the metal down and paint it again. My to do list continues to grow, I also want to paint my porch table and chairs this spring. I am at work now so no pics to share. Hope you all have a great day and that the spring fever is not too bad at your house! Pete
On Edit I was able to pull a couple pictures in. The first is of Kyle hard at work the first day we worked on the trailer...The next one is one of me..LOL.
Ok gonna try this again. I posted once and my pictures were all out of place. I tried to edit and things just got worse...LOL.. OK here we go.
Hi everyone I hope all is well and warm at your house. I have just been lurking in the background for a few weeks now and have not been posting too much. This winter so far as everyone knows has been a cold one. Thank goodness the cold has not been accompanied by freezing rain down where I live. I am worried about my fruit trees and some of my flowers. I have added another to do on my long list of “to do’s” and that is to run a water line out to my Satsuma and Lemon trees and put a mist sprinkler head at each tree. An elder in the church told me that is how he keeps his trees from freezing. I have attached a few pictures of my poor trees. And one of a cute little girl...see if you can guess who she is.
This cold weather sure was fun when I was a kid. I use to love to hunt birds, shoot my pellet gun and stomp on the ice when we had freezing weather. You could warm up in an instant by just walking into either our grandmother’s house or mom’s house. They kept their houses warm like ovens, sometimes I could hardly breathe the air was so hot inside. They would be all bundled up and would ask me how I can stand to be outside! Oh but things have changed…. Now I worry about my trees, flowers and that sort of stuff, my hands and feet get cold and my nose runs if I am outside too long it takes me forever to warm up. I still think the frozen water in the bird baths and ditches are neat to look at and I like to watch it crack under the stress of your foot or a well thrown rock. I guess you cannot take all the kid out of me! Have a good day Pete.
Not looking too good.
My Lemon tree that produced so well in the fall....

Happy New Year to all my friends here on GG. I hope that 2010 is your best year ever. My son Kyle had his year start off with a bang. He and another deputy were attempting to arrest someone at a party when a good number of the party goers jumped him and his partner. Kyle ended up hitting one and splitting the guys head open and had to mace another. I hate him working that part of the parish because of the lack of respect for the law there. But one thing for sure Kyle wont back down. I think I will buy him a back up gun on my next days off.
I received the following in a email this AM and thought it was worth passing on to you all. Have a great day. Pete
And it's winter before we know it....You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all... and I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams... But, here it is, the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise.
How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my babies go? And where did my youth go? I remember well.. Seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like... But, here it is...my friends are retired and really getting gray...they move slower and I see an older person now. Lots are in better shape than me... But, I see the great change.. Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant... But, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be.
Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore...it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will...I just fall asleep where I sit! And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!!
But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over...its over....Yes , I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done ,,,,,things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done.
It's all in a lifetime....So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!!
Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for good today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!
"Life is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after.
Make it a fantastic one."
LIVE IT WELL!!----ENJOY TODAY!!!!-----DO SOMETHING FUN!!!----BE HAPPY!!!----BE THANKFUL!!!!!
