Finally we have nice cool weather. Normally it is hot and dry around here, we're lucky to have a breeze on occassion. So I am really enjoying our 70 degree temps, suppose to be like this for a coulple days.....Yahoo!!! Maybe my broccoli will do something, probably not, but my moto with this garden is, "keep hope alive".
I was outside this afternoon and all of a sudden I heard a big rucus in the tree where the baby robins are. I was scared to look up, cause all I could think was Daisy (our cat) was up there having a snack. To my suprise it was the babies flapping their wings. I don't know how long before Mom puts em out of the nest, but I hope I get to see their first flight. I'll be packing my camera for a while.
Well my little helper has just announced she is done with her bath so I'm off to make sure she is rinsed properly and then we're going to practice our reading.
Goodmorning to all! I hope everybody had a great weekend.
As for me and my bunch...not too bad, had some cool weather and some down time to just relax. Saturday night we finally got to see our 4th of July fireworks, it was great. Now I just have to go get yet another usb cord so I can get the picts off my hubby's phone. Once I get that done I'll post some picts.
I got an email this morning from one of our dear GG friends asking about the Veggie garden since the masacre (lol). It is really going crazy! JJ said the "pruning" may have been the best thing for it and I think that is 100% true. The tomatoes are over 4ft tall now and fully LOADED! Squash is full, now if they would just get a bit bigger. The cucks, bell peppers, japs, carrots & green onions are just going to town as well. I finally got some corn making silk, from what I understand that means good things are happening....Yahooo!!
Dixie has not found a new home yet, but she did find her way to the japs last Friday morning. My hubby was outside yellin profanities at 7am, and that crazy dog looked at him and ate 3 japs. I really thought she'd be in a bad way later on in the day, but no. She must be super dog.
There are two new additions to my bird family. There is a Robin's nest in my tree in the front yard and yesterday I was able to see the sweee babies mommy's been protecting. She had been chasing one squirrel in paticular she was chasing him across the street and dive bombing him along the way, too funny. When I can get picts I will, I don't really want to tangle with mommy....lol
Well thats enough rambling for the moment, if I'm gonna work out today I better get to movin. I hope all of you have a great day, take care & God Bless!
Hi again! I just got done reading what GG had to say about broccoli and I am still uncertain. It says it likes cool weather (Thanks again Witt) and it says that it should not become water logged. I can't change the weather, but I wonder if when we got all that rain a couple months ago if that didn't wreck it. It looks really healthy it just isn't making any heads at all. And it was shortly after those rains that it really started shooting up and going to town. Ok, well if anybody knows anything more about it let me know. Thanks!
I put some new picts in my albums if you wanna see.
Hello! Hope everyone is doing great today! Since the last time I blogged things have improved greatly, so thanks again for your words of encouragment and prayers!!
Did some work in the garden over the last couple of days, pulling weeds and what not. Had to put more soil and mulch around the corn looked like the roots were coming above ground..??, had to pull all the radishes up they were doing the same thing and by the time I realized what was happeing it was too late they were all dried out. A couple of the squash were turning brown so had to pull those out and cut back the plant a bit so the sun could get in. I hope that fixes the problem.
On the brighter side the maters, bell peppers, japs, strawberries & corn are going crazy! Hooray!
My brocolli is growing very tall, and it is making no heads, why is that and should I cut the plant back? It stands almost 4ft, my mom said she'd never seen it do that and she doesn't know if I should cut it back either. HELP!
Dixie the dog will be on her way to a new home in 2 days. I'm kinda sad to see her go cause she is a good dog, but holy cow can that dog be destructive! Unless she is entertained 24/7 she starts tearing everything up, she even started eating yes eating my privacy fence. God willing, we have found the right home for her, where she will have another dog to play with and she will live a long healthy life! Bye bye Dixie
Hope the rest of the week is great for all of you. Take care and happy gardening!
I hope this finds all of you doing well! I am so thankful its Friday and I hope the weekend goes better than this week has.
Monday I got a ticket for improper lane change/crossing the white line without properly signaling, on the way to pick up my daughter from vbs. This is my first traffic violation ever and its not something that I would normally do so I was a little shaken by that all week. I will know in three weeks what my finacial fate is concerning that.......(if I could put an icon it would be one that was crying.) Lesson learned!
My brothers and I have been fighting all week, and even though we've only known each other for a short time it has taken a toll on all three of us in what I think is an unusual way. Of course I was raised as an only child so I don't know what its like to have a sibling quarrel. I'll be glad when it passes cause I would like to get decent sleep and just move forward. Maybe I can trade them in for two sisters or a hamster......lol.
It has also been hot and humid here this week, and that is really starting to get to me as well. I would like to go visit the North Pole for a day or two, but my hubby says no. I can't catch a break.
The garden is doing ok since the massacre, now if that dog would stop eating everything I would be ok, I think...lol If she keeps it up she's gonna be looking for a new home.(I'm serious about that)
So besides the normal everyday stuff this has been my week and I'm so glad its over, I hope all of you had a better week than I, and thanks for letting me vent! I hope all of you have a really great weekend in your gardens or with family or both. -Trinity-
I am in a state of horror , I don't know if I should cry, yell or laugh. (Laughing is the lest likely reaction)
Let me start from the beginning. I woke up to a beautiful sunrise, with a nice hot cup of coffee I went into the backyard and listened as the birds sang and played in the yard. Then my lovely daughter woke up greeted me with a smile and a "goodmorning mom, how was your sleep?" I thought to myself what a wonderful moment, I'm going to remember this all day. I farted around for a little bit, made some phone calls and then started the dishes. I opened the back screen door to let the dog out and I see her......with the sheers......and so as not to frighten her so she doesn't cut herself I say in a calm voice...McKenzi...."what are you doing with my sheers?" "Oh nothing", she replies. I go out the door to get them from her and I put them back into the shed, and put the lock on it so she can't get in again. I discipline her and we both go on our merry ways. (I could've swore I put the lock on the shed the first time)
Later on my hubby goes out to the garden and he yells at me, "hey did you cut the string off the poles for the tomatoe plants?" (I'll put a pict of our contraption later) I said no, and then the event from the morning flashes in my head......sort of. I go out and I look and sure enough my ever so lovely daughter has cut the string that was holding up all the tomatoe plants. And then I see it, I look over to the squash plant.....she cut off some leaves and some squash, and I look at the bell peppers and she has cut off so many leaves and flowers that one of the plants is a single stem. By this time I am not happy to say the least, and out of the corner of my eye I see tomatoe plant branches where there shouldn't be any, I look at the tomatoes again and yes oh yes she has cut them back as well (thankfully not all of them) She cut some lettuce, pulled some radishes and so on. She man handled every thing in the garden.
My husband is a big ball of goo when it comes to her so he is no help in the discipline department. After taking some deep deep breaths I ask her why she did it, she says, "Mom, I knowed you needed some help and so I just did some stuff so you couldn't have to, its team work mom".
I haven't said much to anybody since that happened, mad at myself cause I really thought I had put those sheers back and locked the shed, she knows better, and my hubby needs to grow a set already and help raise her right. I hope it will grow back, surely she couldn't have taken all of it out hu?
Happy 4th everyone!! Thank you to those of you who have or are fighting for our freedom! This day wouldn't be possible without you. God Bless you, your families and this Great USA!
