Finally had a chance to rake leaves today. We didn't get the hard freeze the Weatherman said we would. That's good. But, to be on the safe side, I did cover all my plants. Today was beautiful. The hummers are in full force. I even spotted a Wren building a nest in an overturned plastic watering can. I sure hope it works out for her. I'll leave it just as it is, till she raises her family. It was such therapy to get out in the gardens today and get them cleaned of all the winter debris. Tomorrow, we'll go get some tomato plants and get them in containers. This is the only way we can grow them, since the deer love them. We put them on our upper deck. So far, no deer has ventured up there.Next project is to clean out the water fountain by my front door.
The "Hummers" are here!!! Great day, the feeders are up and running and the "little dive bombers" are actively staking claim. But, in a couple of days, our temps are suppose to be in the 30's at night. BRRRR........where do they go to stay warm? It rained off and on today. Even now, it's very windy. Coming out of the north. I put all of my big house plants out.......hope they stay warm. I still have a lot of leaves to get out of my front gardens. It's just been to windy to burn.
Even though we had threats of bad weather around us, we never received any. I am looking forward to some rain, though. I have waited 20 years for a pond. Now, I just wished it would fill up. I did some planting today. Finally put those banana trees in the ground. Seeded some blue Morning Glories and also a bunch of Zinnia's. It has been very peaceful around here. The tourists just aren't here. With this high water, I don't know if they'll ever come! Tonight, I sat out on the deck and listened to the Spring Peepers. Last night, I was serenaded by owls. They were calling and "laughing"
What a great place. I love living in the country.
There is still a threat of rain tonight, after midnight. Maybe.........
It's suppose to rain......again. Although, this time, I'm looking forward to it. We just had a pond dug out. Can't wait for rain, to fill it up. I invision water lillies, cattails and fish. But, that'll be later on. Now, I just need water in it. It's been very windy today, and the pollen count is very high. Lotta sneezin'. I just finished staining the concrete on the patio. Kinda of looks like big slabs of granite, now. It was a lot of work, but sooooo rewarding. Now, on to my next project. Still waiting to put my banana trees in the ground. Maybe next week. I see on Weather Bug, we could have some nights in the forties. Still to "Iffy". I'm just itching to set all my house plants outdoors.
The lakes around here are still flooded. It's kind of depressing to see all the camp grounds at Theodosia Park under water.
43º windy. Where is spring? Our lakes are all in flood here in the Ozarks. People below the dams are evacuating. The Branson Landing has flood waters in it. Man, we need a break. At least they took the snow out of our forecast. I'm soooo looking forward to warmer weather. The wind is stirring up the pollen, not a good day to be outdoors.
But, next week does look like it will be better weather.
We have had a rough winter and early spring here. Lots of flooding in the surrounding area. Today, however, is beautiful. The deer have eaten a lot of my tulips, though. But, Hyacinth are up and smell wonderful. I'm looking forward to planting my banana trees.
