I have a few African Violets that I find challenging to grow. Though not hard they do require time. I love to see the colors and remember where I got each one. My mom gave me one once after a surgery. She doesn't have a green thumb, and I was surprised she bought such a delicate plant. I tried to grow AV's for many years. When I was younger Aunt Mary used to give me one everytime I visited her in NY. At least once a year. I was always embarrassed to tell her it died. Finally I figured out what I was doing wrong. It was too late to get one from her she was no longer with us. I was really overwhelmed when my mom bought me that light purple one. It is the only one I can guarentee to have flowers. Since then I've added to my collection, I now have 16, 4 new ones came home with me last night. Though I struggle over the fact most don't bloom at all or hardly ever. I met a friemd in the last few days that seems to enjoy AV's as much as I do. I am excited we are exchanging leaves. None of my "home" friends have the same interests I do. I guess this is why I enjoy GardenGuides so much. I have found so many "on-line" friends with the same interests.
