April showers
Apr 21, 2008 | 2:54 AM PST
"Tho April showers, may come your way"
Their only flowers, that bloom in May"
So if it's raing, have no regrets
It's not really raining rain, you know
It's raining violets!
It's raing green here!
Almost hurts your eyes it's so bright green. And you know this makes old granny happy as a lark! Only problem, the late frost and then the rain these last weeks have kept me from getting a lot of my seeds into the ground.Oh,well.As soon as I can I'm gonna slap that job into high gear and like the majic that it is, those seeds are gonna jump up and I'll be wishin I'd held some of the seeds back{as in oh, my aching} That's a gardener, never satisfied!!LOL.
See ya'll later,Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

Vintage gifts
Apr 20, 2008 | 5:17 AM PST
We took off Sat. and went down to the flea market.I bought a brooch of white coral with green rinestones, a nice gold plated ring and all for five dollars. My grandgaughter Madeline is 10 months old and these little trinkets will some day be hers. You see, I don't care whether something is "real" or not.If it's pretty and shines,I will love it! I have of late ben thinking about the things my children will remember about me, when they look back down the long hall of our lives together. I ask myself what do I wish them to remember. Will it be worth remembering?
Will my daughter Callie see my eyes when she looks in her son Matts eyes? Will she see the love that shone there for her when she was his age? Or will she see the anger, as I spanked her for climbing to the top a of a pine tree when she was ten years old.Or the pride I had for her courage as I helped her give birth.
So many thoughts ...
I think I will write a long letter to each of my children, and put all my gifts there for them to find.

jack Frost
Apr 17, 2008 | 4:48 AM PST
Well, the frost got my granson's pumpkin seedlings! It was my fault, I jumped the gun and we set them out, and you guessed it, Jack Frost came a calling. I could have cried, but good old Matt just looked up at the sky and said
"Don't be sad grannylee, theres still time to replant. If this weather warms up some!"He kills me with his little farmer ways. Here I was worrying all day that he would be upset when he got off the school bus yesterday! Children absolutly humble me with their faith and goodness.

It's around forty degrees here in central Va., about twenty degrees cooler than normal for this time of year! It ain't fair!!! Whine whine ahine!! The only thing that loves this weather is the danged weeds. I got a whole bucket of seeds just rarin to get in the ground.Help me Lord Jesus to be patient. I guess theres only one thing to do, mow the weeds. The last frost should be gone in a day or so. If not I'm gonna ..
Whatcha gonna do ,if the frost comes back, Granny.
Whatcha gonna do ,if the frost comes back, Granny
Gonna sit right down and cry, cry, cry,
Honey baby mine...
Sticks n Stones,oh my aching bones!!
Apr 11, 2008 | 3:40 AM PST
The big old oaks in my yard shook their heads and gifted me with twigs and sticks a plenty! So nothing to do but roll up my sleeves and go to work!I spent most of yesterday doing that before work. You know, gotta rake and burn BEFORE you can even begin to garden. Then the iris beds beckoned, and that new rose bush has to be planted. Then some rocks from out in the woods had to be hauled over to the new bed I got planned.... so, My poor husband came in from work and saw me sitting on a stump, and asked, "What's for supper"? He looked so funny when I answered,"Hows about a nice pot of sticks and stones!

Plain living

I was over in the forums and came across a going green thread and it occurred to me , that it ain't that hard to become less of a consumer. You just gotta change your way of thinkin about how you want to live your life.If you walk some of the places you gotta go,you'll not only strengthen your body, but also your mind. Me and Matt watch the clouds and play that old "Whats that one look like"game.I guess what I'm trying to say is, life is a balancing act. A little work, a little play. Getting so wrapped up in the race for more more and still more, knocks that balance off and the only way out is a screeching halt, a step back a good long hard look at whats important. I grew up in two room shacks with an outhouse, folks today think they need a mansion with all the trimmings to start out. This more more attitude wastes valuable resources. Go to the dump sometimes and just see how much people waste. My husband once took me to one of those buffet places to eat, and it bout made me sick to see the platefuls of food being wasted. A lot of folks throw out good clothes just because their closets won't hold the new ones they did'nt need in the first place. In my day, if something could'nt be mended, it would be pieced into a quilt, or some such use.A really small kitchen garden could just about feed a family of four if the time was taken to teach the young ones to help. Ah, well it's a different time now.But I don't believe it's a better time necessarily.
P.S. I just made myself sad, sorry self!

Pumpkins in my future
Apr 8, 2008 | 5:43 AM PST
My grandboy Matt, has caught the gardening bug! He started dozens of halloween pumpkin seeds and they ALL sprouted. My poor husband now has to plow up a pumpkin patch. Not only that but Matt also sprouted squash, cucs, watermelon, cantelope and I don't know what all! In addition to his usual gourds and sunflowers, he is talking about his forthcoming mater crop.Holy cow folks, the boy turns nine tomorrow. I told him, he's going to be a busy man this summer! What a joy to have a natural born farmer on my hands! Trouble is; his feet don't reach the tractor pedels yet!LOL

A good day to do inside stuff
Apr 3, 2008 | 6:38 AM PST
I'm looking out my kitchen window. No sunrise for me, at least sunshine that is.I swear it looks like snow! I'll cry a bucket if that happens! Probably just have a cold rain. Oh,well, be a good day to catch up on the washing. My poor husband went to work looking likea raggedy man today. He asked very nicely, "Could you wash me some clothes, today". Then batted his eyelashes at me.I guess I will, since he asked nicely. I'm not usually this behind, but I been repotting , sprouting seeds, raking, dividing iris beds, all the normal boatload of things that need doing in early spring. Maybe I'll catch spring cleaning fever and change the house around a little, while I'm cleaning and washing today. See ya'll tomorrow, unless I get buried under that mountain of clothes!!!!
