Last week I planted a Brandywine and an Old German tomato. The grower said the Old German was brought to this country by the Mennonites. Has anyone grown these? They are firsts for me. Today I picked up an Early Girl to have some as soon as possible. I used to start a dozen plants from seed and can lots but with just the two of us now I don't bother.
After a long dry spell we finally got rain the last two days. I planted tomatoes last Sat. and flowering annuals to fill the empty places in the beds on Wed. Good timing :) Now that the ground is damp enough to work I was able to weed an overgrown spot around the Imperial locust in the front yard. There are crocus and scilla bulbs there and also moonflowers. These are not the vine but an Oenothera. They open at dusk and close in the morning. I'll try to get a picture.
