This has certainly been an odd year weatherwise. Not bad, just odd. I loved the cooler weather in July but that probably was why my Peruvian daffs never bloomed. Maybe next year.
I've spent the last few days trying to spruce up slowly fading gardens. Almost everything looks ratty, the ferns are burning up and my hostas look like they got hit with a load of buckshot. On the bright side the black-eyed susans are in bloom as are my balloon flowers and my Russian sage is being a real trooper. My peacock orchids are smaller than usual for some reason but blooming none the less. I noticed my hardy asters are starting to bud up and I can always count on my Fall blooming ornamental grasses to close out the season. Man, this summer sure went by fast! *sigh*

Today the guy from Trugreen lawn service came to 'access' my lawn. (Yes, i employ Trugreen to fertilize my postage stamp size lawn...i'm hopeless at maintaining good grass).This apparently is a new service they offer. Actually it's a ploy to sell more services like grub control, insect infestation control...blah, blah. However, the accessment was free. He told me my lawn was in A-1 condition. Good color, good length of grass, few weeds(better not be any!) and no thatch. He said mine was the best lawn and gardens he's seen in town. My plants were in amazing shape and my shrubs and trees looked to be in great health. A regular oasis he called it. He couldn't stop looking. It made me feel like i had accomplished my mission...a garden haven away from the world. Oasis...i like that.

My Polish Spirit clematis is sending up new shoots from the ground. We've had some rain and a few warmish days and the darn thing is starting to grow, thank God. I've been wracking my brain(ouch) for something to plant in it's place. Now I won't have to do that anymore. I cut down all the old growth, even the vines that had shoots on them. I'll let it start fresh this year. I did notice my trellis is starting to rot. It's been there for awhile so no surprise there. Good old zip ties will hold her for another year. nbsp;

Took me two days but the worst is over. Now everything looks so nekkid and man, am i sore. I'm holding my breath for my clematis. I've got a Polish Spirit that I've had for yeeears. It's certainly time for it to be pruned but I only see one budding leaf cluster on some older upper growth. I sure hope it's not pooping out on me.:( i'll give it another week and see what happens.

We've had the weirdest weather. The weathermen say we haven't had a white Easter since 1904 and NEVER have we had these snow totals at this time of year. What could possibly be next? The gardeners and fruit growers in southern Michigan are losing plants and crops right and left. I can hardly wait to see what summer brings to the garden.

We needed the moisture but did it have to be snow?! This looks more like November than April around here!
.
This was the scene last week in my garden.

This was the scene today. Those odd little nubs peeking out of the snow are what's left of my beautiful crocuses.:-(
