Well, I guess the growing season is about over. It is cold and rainy just like last spring. My tomatoes that are still growing, are small and green....but I like fried green tomatoes. I have canned and frozen the rest. My fall flowers look GREAT! I bought some plants that are supposed to attract butterflies and planted them in the hope of next spring having more butterflies. Will be getting ready for fall yard/garden cleanup soon..better get the tiller ready then, the snowblower will assume the spot i my garage that the mower and tiller have held this year so far.
The trees are turning and are awesome!! As long as the leaves are still on them, I like them. Only a few more weeks till.....

I confess, I haven't been here for awhile, but I have been 'bargain' shopping for periennials on sale at various stores. Now they all have mums,I have see wonderful colors! But I am looking for grasses, and plants of varying heights when full grown. The south side of my house gets full sun and the north stays a bit wetter and is shadier.
I am still planning a patio area and looking for good pavers with some color variation. This project will be done next spring, i think. It is already getting very cool at night.I am gathering my veggies and if I can avoid eating my profits, I'll do fine this winter.

I have been so lucky this year! Everytime I think it is time to wate my garden or lawn, it has rained. Wheter I really liked it or not sometimes like thislast time very adbundantly. I am NOT complaining! This is wonderful. Everthing looks great and I am very happy. But I think I am going to purchase a rain barrel or two to keep water on hand and my water bill lower. Me veggies make me feel as though I now have two jobs (at least!) the one for my employer and the one where I am the harvster/gatherer/consumer. I must learn not to eat my profits right away! But how do you do that when they are sooo yummy?

Where did the summer go? I've been picking green beans and tomatoes and my first ever corn is tall and I can see the ears! Don't know when to pick it though. I have fought squirrels, birds, rabbits and now Opossums. It has been a busy season. Still I am very proud of this, my first attempt at gardening. It has not ended yet, so still, I toil!

It raind again!! I'm getting used to this gardening thing. You clear an area, plant, water, nurture. It rains....weeds grow. You pull, whack with a hoe make things look good again. Your plantings grow!!! Great!!! It rains, weeds grow in the places where you could't or didn't mulch so you pul and hoe...again!! Repeat this cycle until growing season is over, right?

The rescued plants have survived!! I now have to plant them somewhere... some belong inside and I will spend the afternoon sipping some very cold sweet tea and enjoying them!! I think rescuing plants is fun and interestiing. My daughter used to say, "Oh my god!! There you go again....MORE plants!" I wonder what she will say when she sees the landsacping and garden? No matter, I am happy as a clam! In my garden heaven!

Today was pretty rough for me. Add 90 degree weather and even though it was beautiful, I had a rough day. I went to a store that will remain nameless, to search for new plant and found that the plant care there was horrible! Poor things were sitting in the blaring sun and were as dry and parched as old bones on a desert! Finally a teen employee came to 'spray' the plants. It was noon!! I spoke to the manager and he gave me a great discount and I 'rescued' several that I had not intended to buy and brought them home, and worked in the evening shade to water them well tonight and will recheck them in the morning. Wonder if anyone else has had this experience?

Thanks to my friends for all of your ideas!! I am going to add a picture so you can see the area and then use your ideas before I finalize my plans!! Have now learned how to add pictures, it was easy, (really!) and have some of my little garden to share with you! Any ideas or expereinces with compost? I plan to add the fall leaves to the garden area, but how about those container things?
P.S. I HATE WEEDS!!!

I had a old metal storage shed on the side of my backyard which I just had torn down because I had no further need for it. The area is flat because the shed was there for 25 years. I am thinking of what to replace it with and since I have no deck or patio, I am considering a brick patio or a gazebo. The area is 10'X10' and is right next to the sidewalk. I have no idea about putting down pavers. Or how to secure a gazebo, but I guess I can learn.....

Wow! I feel really great! It has been alot of really hard work but my first gaarden is looking better and getting productive!! My veggies are doing great with all the rain and my new 'pets' are not getting itno my garden!! Since my last time here, I have seen skunks eating the mulberries, rabbits who tried to dig thei way in, but my chickenwire is place under the soil, two doves have taken up residence in my locust tree where they sit for hours on end. I am now interested in planting beautiful flowers (periennial) for the fall and some that will bloom next spring/summer. It is raining today, again.

Hi! Since I am new here just wanted to meet you and get some help with my garden. This is my first time gardening and I have just noticed some holes on my collard leaves! What should I do?
