Oh, this weekend would have been good, except on Saturday evening, my 11 year old decided that he should be able to ride his ten speen bike on a semi-busy road, without a helmet and without permission!!! The road is one that connects town to to out laying areas.. we live 5 miles from town, and there are still 20+ miles to go before the civilziation runs out. OH, and the speed limit is 35, when people pay attention!!! There is a gas station/mini mart about 1/2 mile, and he thought that since his grandpa told him he needs more expierence riding on city streets, before he will let him ride around town.. (why my sons thinks he need to ride around town is beyond me.. by he thinks that when Papa goes to town, he can ride his bike from where ever Papa is to the park and Papa can come and get him when he is done). So he tells his Papa that he is going to ride down to the store and back, Papa tells him to ask me, first.. does he? NO! My dad tells me, after they had been home from town for about 10 minutes that Kenny is gone, took off on his bike. And then he tells me about the whole riding in town/ getting experience by riding to the store and back.. So, I go and grab wallet and keys and sure enough!! found my son, riding, AT DUSK, in windy conditions that was blowing lots of dust into the road.. WITH OUT A HELMET!! and on the wrong side of the road!! NOW, this kid has have the safety training, but obviously it has not sunk in!! So, in trouble, in his room, restricted from riding for a while.
Ok, so Sunday comes.. starts out fine, till we go out to dinner.. As soon as we get in the vehicle, he starts in about why can't he ride his bike without a helmet?? So we pull over for gas at the above mentioned gas statoin.. and look at my dad, and ask him.. "can you please tell Kenny, about when his aunt Stephanie got hit by a car on this very same road??" then I turn to my son and say that is only one reason why I have hesitation about you riding on this road!!
Go ahead to dinner... Kenny won't drop the subject (he gets that from his dad!!) so he thinks that making the point about him "being a good bike rider" should make me, say sure go ahead.. well, NOT! I told him, you are not that good of a rider, if you don't ever wear a helmet!! and it is not you not being a good rider.. it is ALL THE DRIVERS OF ALL THE VEHICLES that I worry about!!! they may not be paying attention, they may not be able to see you!! sorry, but I don't want you hurt!! So, ok, we ended discussion for a while..
Then we get home, and Papa and Kenny are out mowing the lawn.. I go out to tell my dad something and see a green thing wrapped around the handle of the mower, not thinking much of it. My dad had hold of the mower, it was not running... well Kenny came out of the garage, Papa started the mower and Kenny took over.. well he was not even holding the handle....... not only that he stopps picks some thing up and throws it for the dog... as the mower gets farther away, then it dawned on my that whatever that green thing is-it is holding down the saftey switch!! MOM FLIPPED OUT!!! But not only was my son in trouble for that one, so was my dad!!! I put an end to it, but would my son let it drop?? NO!! he kept trying to come up with ways that he could just hold on to a string or rope or something that would break and release the safety if he happened to fall... Still nope, not gonna happen!!
So, that is why I say that I have more gray hairs today!!! I am not sure if my son has hit an early purberty... but something sure has taken his commen sence away.. along with his sence of safety and his sence of reason!!
Wow! It has been soo long since I have posted a blog on here. My computer had to get revamped and the person who did it took off my home pages.. which garden guides was one of! Then life was happening and things have been crazy!!
So, anyway, our garden is looking really good this year! The peacocks (from next door) has stayed until last week! Then they seemed to remember that we have a garden. So it have been all of on "peacock patrol" all during the day!! The like the early morning hours so far, so it is usually me and my bright green bath robe that has to go out and yell and wave my arms around.. with my hair is all directions...see I have not even been in the shower yet!! LOL
We have already been getting some good sized zuccini, and radishes!! Our corn did not get too tall, but has already flowered, and so we have been going and and "sexting" the corn plants!! My partner laughs when she tells me that she "sexed" the corn plants!! she did not believe me at first, that if you want the insure that you get corn, just go out and collect the flower seeds (or whatever they are called on corn plants) and sprinkle them down the plants so that the seeds go down in between the leaf and the stalk, but, we have cobs already growing!!!
The strawberries that I planted two years ago, have decided to give us some berries this year! Have had to harvest every couple of days!!! My dad, goes out and harvests, and then he makes strawberry short cakes!! yumm, yumm!!
I even noticed that my current has some berries!! Though at a foot tall the plant wont be able to give me too many berries at once.
We have pumpkins, cucumbers, zuccini, straight-neck squach, crooked-neck squash, onions, garlic, carrots, radishes.. lots!!
