I was out checking out the garden this morning and making a mental list of this to try to get done this weekend, when I spotted a zucchini. I have posted a picture in my Greenhouse & Garden album. This is the biggest round zucchini I have yet to see, my cell is next to it to give a hint of the size! And then the end of it had seeds coming out! I am not sure if the peacocks had eaten a little of it and the hole was near the seeds, or what... I am not sure but really strange looking,, there is a picture of that also!
My sons football game Saturday morning 8 a.m. in a town one hour away. So the team was supposed to be there by 7, and as this is still the junior league it is all up to the parents to get there child there. Not a big deal, usually! Up at 5, Kenny up by 5:30, tried to leave by 6. Did not happen, left town my 6:15. My son has an overactive bladder, been going on for a few months now, so anyway, three stops on the way there. We did not make it to the field until just before 8! These games last about 2 hours! So about 10, game over, we lost 33-22. Oh well, the boys did really good! Some of us stop off at McD's so there goes another hour! And then another one to drive home! I was so tired! I don't normally take naps but that day I did! Then we did some shopping and went to the movie, Beverly Hills Chihuhuas.. it is actually a good movie! Lots of really cute dogs, but also a good morale story line!
Yesterday we had our last Show-N-Sell for Cub Scout Popcorn. I had it scheduled at Walmart from noon-five. Well just about like all the others it was just my son and me! But I guess that it ok! We sold over $400! He has reached his goal prize of a portable DVD player! It was cold and windy!!! And since it rained the day before I wanted to be prepared! Scout moto! We set up a tent and put the popcorn in there, borrowed a canopy from a friend and had the table and chairs under that! And guess what!! No Rain!! Just lots of wind! I was prepared for that also! I bought 4 bags of salt (for the water softener!) and rope, 2 bags went into the corners of the tent and the other two anchored the canopy!
It stayed windy until it was time to pack up, which was a blessing, I was not looking forward to try to roll the tent up with the wind blowing.
So I did not get anything done in the garden this weekend. And next weekend is not looking to good either! Saturday both football game and Cub Scout Conservation Clean Up Project! and then Sunday, going out of town for the night. Sunday night we are going to see Jeff Dunham!! and Monday my son has allergy testing scheduled. So at least I get a three day weekend! lol
GO WITH THE FLOW AND BALANCE THE CHOAS,, that has been my saying for the last month!
October 3, 2008! The garden is being prepared to be winterized, but with the rain the last few days, the outside okra plants have new flowers on them, and they are still producing okra's, so how to winterize around them? We already transplanted one into a pot and put in greenhouse to see if we can keep it producing over the winter, or at least for a another month or so. We transplanted a bell pepper plant also. So I will find out with time wether they like being dug up and put in a pot!
I just got done uploading lots of pictures!! So go and check them out!
My ideas for winterizing the garden are:
for most of the garden:
1. mow down weeds
2. rototill down about 4 inches
3. plant winter wheat
for the strawberry bed do a sheet mulch:
1. cover with mulch or manure
2. layer of cardboard
3. 1 to 1 1/2 inches of mulch or manure
4. cover with a leaf of straw
5. cover that with bird netting so that the wind does not blow it all away.
So that is what my ideas are, but actually getting time and resources are another thing.
