Mar 29, 2012 | 2:46 AM PST with our temps hovering at 30*, and 3 inches of new snow on the ground. Temps are suppose to go up some by saturday though. We uncovered the grill and set it on the deck, cooked 2 nights out there, now the silent soldier is covered with snow. Go figure.Oh,well, once this wonky weather passes,it'll be nice out,and I'm restaining the deck. The bath shower room is in the stages of putting the hardware up and back on, shower rod back in place. All painting is done in there. The small window got trimmed out, found the cabinet knobs,so thats next, along with picking out flooring.Dad gave the pine wall a second poly coat,so thats done. The fridge wall project is all primed out,now to pick out color for both sides. Remodeling is coming along at the daughters place,we're done with the floor now, and start putting furniture back in today. Got a rug for Landons room and he is in his new room now, just need the accessories like a beside lamp, and finish painting his bed rails, then we can put it all back together. My garlic is up good, left it covered with the hay,now its got 3 inches of snow. My tulips were peeking up also about 2 inches, not sure what their doing now...I know the crocus likes the late/spring snow-but what about tulips?
Mar 14, 2012 | 5:47 AM PST with the warm weather here in Maine. A chilly day today coming in at 30*,then temps going back up,for another 65*/70* weekend. Rainny and chilly, but thats ok,we need some rain. The shower room is coming along nice, cabinets got stained and polyied and back on,along with the trim.I'll retrieve the knobs in the garage, and he'll put them on this week. Have a rope strung across the tub for my curtain while the wall is being done,it looks quite funny. Will look over what we have in the salvage pile for some shelving. Only one small closet in this house when we bought it,I'm making sure now there is plenty of shelving/ closets/storage spaces as we go along. We won't be done with this house by this summer, even if I won the lottery. In May, with the good weather maybe April, we move outside to the north wall to re-do that. We put a halt to doing the inside work till late fall again.Way too much to putter on outside during the good weather. I quess I'll be planting some stuff this year, checked the garlic and its not up yet,its still too early. No flowers either, daughters flowers are up a good 3 inches already. Maybe I'll get some dirt time in the front bed this weekend and get my window box up....
Mar 10, 2012 | 1:48 AM PST
It doesnt matter what the calendar says, its spring here in Maine! Another 45* day today-then warming back up to 60-65* this week. Our coast may see 70* they say. I have virtually no snow left, and all water ponds receded. All beds are warming up,so will check the rock garden today for any signs of action.Daughter has already got some action in hers,I think its her tulips that are up.We have all the window/door trim on at the daughters living room, today we pick up the floor sander to do that. At my place, I have finally got to the color stage on the bathroom, and all the white spackling dots are slowly disappearing. With the warm weather this week, I have a 3 day spread that I will be home, and I can stain the bath cabinets and do the doors out on the deck. The man will do another materials run tomorrow for my window trim etc.I will actually have one room that is finished and has color! The fridge wall/dish cabinet is getting primed now,so it won't be long till I can put everything back together where it goes, maybe next week, but at the most 2 weeks.I must remember to go check on the garlic also..no spring peepers yet...
Mar 2, 2012 | 2:46 AM PST And it wouldn't be a fun winter without a good yarn to tell. Landon had just got done with his bath, and had to use the toilet. He had his toy boat in his hand, and went to flush the toilet, dropped it-and down she fell into the swirling flush. Stuck 1/2 way. While we were in the middle of a semi emergency here with the woodstove/chimney being plugged up,and building the wall, she called in a panic. Landon plugged the toilet up with the toy boat! What do we do? Of course, my first response is "Call boat patrol"! And had a good laugh. Don't panic, shut the water off and snake it first. Its an older toilet, certainly not water efficient. Nope they tried 3 times, and it wouldnt budge. OK, we'll be over tomorrow to look at it,you can use the flush upstairs at least. That too was older and having issues but still working at least. After we got there and that was a no getting that boat unstuck, it was determined a new toilet that was easy on water usage would be had, since they had to pay a water bill. They got the toilet off,and with some probing, out popped the toy boat, which went in the trash. Landon was then instructed a little about the toilet,no more toys will ever go near it again in the future lecture. Since we were headed to Home Depot for wall materials,we picked up a new toilet, but slightly different style. The 2 button style is on top,and depending on what your business is, flushes with 1.28 or 1.6 gal. and got it for a reasonable price. They lov their new styled toilet, and now to work on the upstairs one. Some new guts are needed for that one,but if something else goes wrong after that's fixed, that too will be replaced with a new one. I don't know if its just boys, or kids in general with toilets. One week later... Landon felt too much toilet paper was in the toilet after using it,and it wouldnt flush on the first push, so he grabs his mothers hair pick, and trys to chop up the paper. Then he takes the hairpick to his mother in the living room, and tells her what he did. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure she wasn't laughing, but we were on this end. The hairpick goes in the trash, and another lecture. I sure do hope Landon gets over this toilet faze he's on.....lol.
Mar 2, 2012 | 2:20 AM PST with yesterdays snowfall amount of about 8 inches. Plows are still going by,but I don't think its doing much outside right now. Another storm due in tonite, but they arent sure if its going to be rain-sleet or snow. This time it was a light fluffy snow. Temps keep climbing and going up and down,so we know spring is right around the corner. My shower room cabinets are in,the wall is mudded and primed, awaiting its topcoat. My fridge/dish cabinet wall is also in place, and being mudded. Those 2 small-? projects are enough to keep us busy for the next few weeks. At the daughters house,we are painting the living room out now,all mudding and priming is done. We did one wall in the yellow color they picked up, but it was way too bright, and no one liked it,so another trip and we picked up the same Harvest Gold color we did on the long porch, which is much better, and easy on the eyes. I'm looking forward to spring, but I also don't want it to come too fast,as we want to finish up these projects before heading outside to play..
