On the news yesteday, they said we are in drought mode!! The corn leaves are curling up in an effort to try to survive with the lack of water. The showers that have come thru this area have been scattered so some need the rain and others are doing fairly well. The news man says overall we are about 4 1/2 inches down for the year.. and the town that has the newschannel is about 45 miles away and has had more rain than we have had, so we know we are even more behind.
Digging in the garden .. the ground is like a rock and you can dig about a foot and still not hit moisture. People on well sytems are getting their tanks in their trucks ready to start hauling water in.. not good this early in the season!
My daylillies are showing signs of stress, but are getting buds, so watering every chance I get to help out nature.. but my water bill is going to be high!!
No rain in the forcast either..

THat Quack grass is taking over!! Oh my gosh, I have spent hours out in one of my flower beds loosening the soil and pulling out grass and 18 inch runners!! What a mess!! That is what I get for not going out during the buffalo gnat days.. and you cannot just put round up on it because is goes everywhere and around the roots of all your other plants..and when I went out today.. the first thing I did was dig into an ants nest!! I swear the critters are out to get me.!!
If if were not for my annuals I would not have a lot blooming yet, my penstemon and verbena, but the day lillies are about ready and my orientals, the canna and dahlia have buds and all iris has gone by now. What perennials do you have blooming in your garden right now?
This has been a wierd spring.. things that should blooming are behind and things that should not , have already bloomed! That last really cold spell we had in April killed a lot of my plants..guilardia, all 4 of my butterfly bushes :(, a lot of my iris were set back, my hydrangeia, and many other things that I used to rely on, also lost some hardy hibiscus and a couple of clematis. So I have lots of replacing to do.

Well we finally can go outside without being attacked. I swear those nasty buggers were awful.. kiling chickens and other fowl.. and many people ended up at the hospital with bites and allergic reactions. I had to put ice packs on my bites, take benedryl and antibotics!!
Yesterday was able to spend some time in one of the flower beds.. goodness I am way way behind!! And it is too windy today to do much so will have to wait until the wind dies down.. we are supposed to get 50 + MPH winds off and on today, mostly this afternoon. I got so far behind that I might not get caught up until fall..LOL
What is one supposed to do about quack grass?? I spent hours in one bed yesterday digging the whole thing out. Quack grass was taking over my daylillies and asiatic lillies. It is much better now, but I did not dig up the lillies because they have buds on them and I know there probably is some grass roos under them..that grass puts runners out by the foot! Anyone had any suggestions about getting rid or or controlling in some manner the quack grass?? Also have trouble with a weed that looks like clover, but has yellow flowers on it .. it will grow in rock or anywhere.. not sure what to use on it.. could use some help with that one as well.
Grandkids are coming this weekend so gotta get busy getting things child proof before they get here. I dont get to see the younger ones often because they live so far away. I will surely be worn out by Sunday, the younger ones are 8, 5 and 2. Now I know why we had children while we were young!! LOL
