We had 2 fronts come through last night bringing rain-lots of rain!! There were bad storms to the south of me, with lots of big hail, but at my house it was just nice, nice RAIN! Washing away all that pollen! Maybe my throat will quit hurting! Now I can put the weed n feed out!
Things are blooming nicely around the yard:
The rain last night beat them up some. The azaleas are almost finished around here. The Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow shrub is blooming and smelling like crazy:
It has a VERY heady fragrance, almost so much that it is overwhelming. I have a place picked out to put it int he ground. It should grow to be a big shrub, like the azaleas. I discovered the Mock Orange behind my shed blooming:
It is not real big, but has flowers all over. It crept under the fence from the neighbor's yard. I like it. And Last, but not least, the Clematis is blooming. 2 days ago, I only had 2 flowers open-this was yesterday:
This morning, it had even more flowers open on it! I just think it is so pretty! The Bottle Brush is just loaded up with little buds, can;t wait for it to bloom!
Keeping busy with the daily mudane things. Watering, cleaning off the pollen, pondering a yard sale. All of the garden is planted now. Contemplating canteloupe, though I don't have a place picked out for that. I need to treat the yard with weed-n-feed now to kill off the dollar weed and Virginia buttonweed. 2 of the worst things I have in my yard! That stuff is so expensive, but it sure works good!
Ok, first picture of flower bed at the beginning of the month:
The pansies, dianthus & snapdragons were planted in November, I think. That middle clump of dianthus survived the summer last year, so this is it's second spring. Here is the bed taken yesterday. Not quite the same angle, but you get the idea:
The sweet peas are just started to climb the oblisek (? sp). It was knocked over a few days ago-don't know if it was the wind, or the dog & cat chasing lizards. I have many this year. Fancy Pants is not as good a hunter as Motley was. Last year my Amaryliss didn't bloom until April; they are starting now, we are having a warmer spring than last year. Finally, a pic of the back yard/patio from my shed. You can see part of the vegetable garden. It is coming along good.
Peanut is running toward me at full speed-ears flopping. He just realized the cat was with me, and he's jealous.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Our garden show is this weekend. I need to go take a peek!
Yes, Ma'am, in the 80's over the weekend. Signs of spring are everywhere. The azaleas are starting to bloom, the lillies are spurting up fast, the petunias are putting on their great show-the vegetables are all in the ground or their designated pot, and now the mowing starts. Finally, the crepe myrtles are putting on leaves, and the oak should be fully leafed out by the end of the week. I need shade!!!
Me & Peanut & Fancy Pants worked in the flower beds, and put mulch in the garden. Didn't get a picture of that, though. I started cleaning around my shed where I keep a lot of my houseplants, and I have a lot of plastic pots that are ka-put. Just broke off in my hands. So, I trashed some bromelaids that I could have saved, but I have so dang many, I just threw them in the trash. I cut a lot of dead growth off some, and re-potted. I believe my Pencil Cactus and plumbago are officially dead. I hate that I lost my plumbago-it was so big and so pretty when it bloomed!
I had one little hummer visit my flowers over the weekend. Fancy just watched it, thankfully, cause it was real close to the patio. I don't think she had ever been outside until she came to live with us. She does not stalk birds very well (that is a good thing!). However, she was laying under the wagon, and Peanut was sitting in the grass sideways to her, and she jumped up and "rolled" him. It was hilarious. He got mowed over with his 4 little short legs straight up in the air, and Fancy hauled butt. We tried painting some this weekend, too, and somehow I tripped and fell. One whole side of my body was "beige", and Peanut got slathered too. We had a very early shower, and just enough paint left in the can to paint the shelf. There is a nice beige spot in the yard, too.
I have not been very diligent in picture taking, lately. I am not my normal self, lots of worry still going on. But spring things help! Like Azaleas:
And my Amarlyis that are in the ground, and large pots are just starting:
I have lots of buds, so there will be more in a few days. Also, the petunias, snapdragons & dianthus are getting to their peak. I dearly love my petunias:
Hope you all had a nice weekend. Our weather was super, and I am finally starting to get over my cold/sore throat, although I am still congested. Pics of the vegetable garden and yard in a few days

I received a message from him that he got a device installed on his computer to help him see & type better. Still having lots of eye problems, along with the multitude of other things, but he is excited about this. Send him a message-he needs cheer!
It was a warm weekend, and I felt like crap! I have an ear infection & am kind of "off balance" -For Real! (ha-ha). Got the anti-bodies going so, hopefully I'll feel better soon! Driving to the drug store I saw some azaleas blooming-mine are just b a r e l y starting!
And some bridal wreath, too!
The buds on the pecan trees are about to burst, so that definitely signals that the cold is over. Those pecan trees just know! I got some more of the garden planted-some zuchinni seeds and some flower seeds, pepper & tomato plants and did re-potting and cleaned off some of the patio. MOWED the grass! (well, the weeds),
Went to Wal-Mart for potting soil, and WOW! There was a long, long shelf of "bulbs" for $1.50 a pack! Anything bulb!- Or root! Caladiums, glads, elephant ears, astilbe, dahlias, strawberries, iris, daylily, bleeding heart, and more, I just can't remember them all! and me, with no money :( I did buy 3 packs of caladiums (5 bulbs in each pack) & some glads (10 bulbs in a pack). I got so excited, I forgot to buy mulch.
It is in the 70's during the days, now, and sunny. Nice. Peanut's allergies are acting up, and I had to go to the doc & buy medicine, so this is a poor month...I need a Yard Sale! The freezer is getting low, and I am sick of deer sausage. I DO know that I have enough squash in the freezer to last me until mine are ready to pick-and they aren't even up yet.!
Hope the weather is nice where you are, and you can hear out of both ears! OH! One of my favorite things about spring::
It's over! The parade seemed short, it moved quick (because of the threat of rain) and there were few riders dressed in their finery-again because of the weather. The costumes can cost up into a thousand dollars or more. A few pics for you all-it was very cloudy and almost dark, so some didn't come out too good, but it was fun! And I caught lots of beads to replenish my box o' beads!
Krewe de Bon Temps (krewe of the good times) Then-a little finery
In this next picture, notice the pegs behind the float riders-that is ALL beads-there are also boxes of beads on the floor of the floats. I rode on one a few years back. There is only enough room to stand because it is full of beads & trinkets!
There's a few more in my photos under "Just Stuff". I wish the pics were better-but it was getting dark! The next party festival we have coming up is Contraband Days the first 2 weeks of May. Pirates take over the city-they throw the Mayor in the lake (for real!) and there is another parade! We like parades!
Got my Mardi Gras shirt on, my beads, and sippy cup for my adult beverage ready! Thunderstorms are predicted about Parade time, so it's been moved up 1/2 hour. I haven't been to anything Mardi Gras, yet. It rained Saturday, and I was going out then, but cold wind and rain changed my mind. I will take pictures and post some tomorrow.
Here's the last King Cake, tomorrow there won't be anymore :(
Differnt shops make them different ways. This one is more like a stuffed donut. I prefer the more cake-type ones.
Both of these were Blueberry, but I like Bavarian Creme the best -OMG!!!
I have been lax in taking pictures around town-all the flowering trees are in bloom, and things are greening up-I've even cut my grass (weeds) already! Here's just a couple:
Another-it was cloudy when I took these, they are so beautiful. There are many more on this lot, but you can't get them all in one shot.
We are closing early today-business in this town shuts down for Mardi Gras except along the parade route & the bars (go figure!) Years ago we used to get a whole gang together & claim a spot early in the morning-BBQ, drink & dance all day long. Can't handle that anymore, but I wish I could!!

My SIL is in surgery right now having a stint put in. She had been having some health issues-nothing major-but a stress test was ordered and she failed it. She had a brother die of a heart attack in his early 40's and her Dad had major heart problems, although he lived into his 60's. Doesn't appear to be REAL serious-but anything dealing with your heart is serious, isn't it? Pray for good results!
