2 Posts in one day-Wow!- Getting some things ready to mail out, and had some Mardi Gras things for Clint's Nebraska girlfriend! It's on to Mardi Gras!! 12th Night is Jan 6 and the start of Mardi Gras season-party, party, party! Here's one of the things I got her. I collect Mardi Gras Masks, but I haven't been to New Orleans since Katrina-I really need to go back!! I got this one at the local "Party Time" store. Not bad for $13.00!
Her collar wants to curl up, she was packaged that way, I tried laying the beads around her to lay them down some, but it didn't work too good. I think she's a beauty anyway!
A New Year is on the horizon, and a time to "start over" to try to make things better! Lose weight, stop complaining, visit friends and family more, PLANT MORE SEEDS, clean up, for Pete's Sake!! I keep seeing shows about how getting rid of the physical clutter can make you feel better- Well, Clint wants me to send him some more of his "stuff". Books, pictures, a little miscellaneous stuff- and I want soooo badly to get rid of all the papers, etc. from our parents death/succession, but that's still d r a g g i n g on! I'm gonna have a big bon fire when/if that ever gets finished!!
I finished the gumbo, and this evening I'll call my neighbor and give them the rest of the cookies and candy at home. I have a really bad cold right now, and feel "hazy'. Yesterday when I got home, I had feathers everywhere, again. No sign of a dead bird. So cleaned up feathers, and looked to see what got knocked over, and THE DURN LITTLE BIRD FLEW UP FROM UNDER A PLANT!! Scared the heck out of me! So , me, the cat and Peanut are chasing this little bird, me trying to shoo him out the doors, which are now all open...Well, it's always a comedy going on! That's the 4th bird this week. Motley brought one to Clint in his bed while he was home! Hilarious!
I pulled out some old gardening magazines, and Oops! I;m late on some of my cleaning up/getting ready. I need to trim my trees, move some shrubs and plant a couple of small trees. I was hoping to get some help out of Clint for that, but it rained almost the whole time he was here. Sunny today, you know. I want to try planting foxgloves and hollyhocks this year. I need to start working on that spot. Oh, there's lots for me to do!
Also, I have promised plants/seeds/bulbs to some of you and haven't gotten them out. I have a few addresses, but if you wanted something from me and didn't get it, please pm me now, and I'll get them out! I'm working on some things for Witt right now. (i don't know where these italics came from!!)
Everyone take care of yourself during this "flu" season. Stay warm and dry- and QUIT EATING!!
Merry After Christmas!! I hope all had plenty to eat-we sure did! Christmas dinner was great, if I do say so myself! Lots of turkey, ham, dressing, beans, buns, and desserts! I did make a little unconventional fruit salad, and fed some to my brother Pete, who hates fruit salad-and it said it was "ok". At least he didn't spit it out!
Clint has had some of the shrimp boiled. But last nite was the best! Pete (my honey) neighbor called us over saying he was boiling crabs and had just put the first ones in. Said he got them from around his duck lease. So, I'm thinking, ok, normal 4" crabs, maybe-WOOHOO! These things were HUGE!! I bet some of the bigger ones were 10 inches tip to tip! Maybe bigger! And Full!! And cooked just right-I ate almost a dozen. We called Clint to come over but he was out eating with his Dad. I called him later and said you have to come see these! He did-and even though he had eaten a big platter of ribs with his dad-he ate about 6 and took pictures to send to his Nebraska girl friend. Tommy said they boiled about 200-225 crabs. I came home with about 2 dozen to shell for gumbo. There were about 15-20 of us there, and we sure ate!!
Today we will get some boudin and cracklins. Clint's trying to figure out how to take some of this home wtih him!
It's been warm-70 degrees this morning at 9 o'clock. I got a "high dollar" Lowe's gift card that I need to go spend some of. Going to check the sales (and boy, there are some good sales going on here!) and pick up some Mardi Gras things for Clint's girlfriend. May do a little planting of Something! this evening if the rain holds off.
Hope everyone is safe and warm and happy! Later Gators!
Hi, Guys! My fly boy made it in ok-and he brought me wine from California Wine Country, and there's also a case coming in the mail!! That's my boy! He knows what his Moma likes! Peanut was so happy to see his Daddy! He wiggled his little butt off! And got to sleep with Clint-now that's starting something I don't like! Oh, well, he'll just have to get over it when Clint leaves.
We're cooking gumbo here at the shop today. With potato salad and one of the guys brought a sweet potato casserole that looks real Good! He's brought it before, and it is good! I also made the "All in one Pan Cake" (the recipe is under recipes! Go figure!). It's a very moist, bundt cake, and VERY good and very easy! We will probably be closed the rest of the week Yay! Business is very slow here right now anyway!
My computer at home hasn't been in service for a couple of days-In cleaning up the bird feathers and dead lizards and miscellaneous other 'stuff' the cat and dog bring in, I ran over the computer telephone line and sucked it up, and well, now it's broke :(. I went to 2 stores yesterday where I could have bought another and FORGOT!
Tonite I will make a pecan pie, and another one of those Bundt cakes (it is sooo good, I tell ya'!), and cook shrimp for Clint. The weather is warming up and looks like the temp will be in the 60's Christmas day, but rain for Christmas Eve. But, that could change! Let's hope!
You all have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, HUGS TO EVERYONE, and thanks for making my life a little brighter now and then!!
I FINALLY caught the "shrimp guys" that set up every now and then and sell shrimp on the side of the road. NICE, med-large for $4.00 lb. Last year they were $3.00, but everything has gone up! So many shrimpers in this part of the country lost everything in the last 3 storms, it's really sad. And these fellows haven't been here as often. I had one pack (approx 2 lbs) left. I bought 15 lbs.-hope that's enough to feed Clint next week!!
Getting ready for Christmas. I'm cooking dinner at Pete's on the river. One of his daughters and grandson are living with him (temporarily!), and my brother Pete and his family, and who knows who else are coming. Last year we had a really good time, I hope this year will be the same. Christmas Eve we will go down to brother Pete's house, and hopefully his boys will do the Christmas fireworks, and it may be cool enough for a bon fire. ; ).
It has been so warm here-Yesterday I pulled a few weeds in my flower bed, and have decided I need to plant something. Don't know what, just something. I started chopping down the cypress vine that has died, and the moonflower. I usually don't wait this long, good grief! THE SEEDS! I'm going to have Moonflowers and cypress vines everywhere!! My broccoli is making the 'side' heads, now, and I think I'm tired of eating broccoli for a while. My radish are making, just not enough! I'm not tired of eating them, yet!
I want to wish everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Stay Safe...and warm!!

I have to share this. I check the NOAA weather site often to see what's in store for the next several days, and I often check the weather where my brother is and where Clint is and a few other people I know. So, I checked Great Falls, MT, which is where Clint will be going in Feb. THIS WEEK, one day the HIGH will be -15 degrees!!!! MINUS 15!! The low will be MINUS 29!! He asked for warm clothes for Christmas-I don't have a clue what to buy for weather like that!!
Yep-Hasn't snowed here anything to speak of since 1988. Don't know how much we really had, but I had about 1 inch accumulation on my outdoor furniture, but I think more than that on my car. This was the view from my back door this morning:
The brown circle is dirt; the snow did not stick to it at all, neither on my patio, or the stepping stones! Weird!
The front yard from the road:
Whoops! A little one! See? No snow on the drive! OK, Now, some of you will remember the pics of my Cassia tree when it started blooming in Oct. This is it this morning, the Bottle Brush is in the back against the fence-both still had blooms on them! It is hard to tell in this picture! This afternoon, all looks well!
The snow started melting off before I got to work this morning. By about 10:30 it was all gone!!
That's what our weather guy said!! A cold front came through this evening-weird looking yellow-gray sky LOADED with fast moving cold rain. The high today was close to 80-getting down in the 40's tonite-High tomorrow-around 45, and then tomorrow nite......chance of snow?!?! It won't stick, just fly around-- one or two flakes. With a 25 mph north wind! Did I tell you I hate winter? (lol) By this weekend, it's supposed to be in the 70's again. Whew! Don't want snow-I still have those big ole plants to drag around to hiberanate somewhere! The scheffelera, the rubber tree, the Hawaiin Ti's, the pencil Cactus. TEN bromeliads, (they're prickly!), the big ferns, the red bird cactus, and on and on.....Did I ever tell ya I wish I had a green house? OH, I have one! For almost 3 years now!! It's just not put together!! (bad joke!)
Ya'll stay warm! Keep the varmints away-and keep on keeping on!
Later Gators! (PS-if we get snow-I'll have pictures! Though, it's probably not a big deal to many of you! Hasn't snowed here in about 20 years!)
Last nite, me & Sweetie Petey went to eat at a local Italian Restaurant that we hadn't been to in a while. It is locally owned, and the owner is a true Italian lady. The first time we ate there, I got eggplant parmigana (which I DEARLY love), and I didn't like it. I don't like the "chunky" italian red sauce. This time I got torellini in a white sauce, and OMG! It was sOOOO good!. Pete got crab stuffed Portabella Mushroom (biggest darn mushroom I've ever seen!! Dinner plate size!) And THAT was awesome, too! I ate my leftovers just now, and it was great! The bread was a cross between a super homemade bisuit and garlic brushed Italian bread. A little crispy outside and heavenly soft inside!! OUCH!!!
We've had a few nights of temps in the low 30's and it finally killed off a few things. Today, I pulled up dead zinnias (sorry butterflies!), dead coleus (way Dead! slimy dead!) The marigolds didn't make it, nor did the salvia, although, the new growth close to the ground looks ok. The Angel Trumpet is dripping dead leaves and flowers quickly, and the leaves on the trees were holding their own, and looks like they'll all be gone by the end of next week!! I trimmed back the morning glory tree (it needs to be propped up to grow straighter), and I pulled the rest of the dead flowers in my dormant vegetable bed. I put a small tarp over it to keep weed/grass growth out until spring... I had a 'bulge' in the middle, so I stepped on it to smooth it out----and Motley ran out!! Crazy Cat! She's supposed to be in the Broccoli!! The tips of my hibiscus are brown--but--petunias and pansies and snapdragons are ok! The begonias are goners, and the Shrimp Plants look bad. Here comes winter!
And winter means Christmas. Tomorrow, my 14 year old neighbor boy will get in my attic and get my X-mas Decorations down. He had his first date tonite! With a Sophomore Cheerleader!! The cheerleaders are having a get together at one of the local restaurants, and they all asked a "date".. . This young boy has the BLUEST eyes! He'll give ole' Frank & Paul a run for their money with Blue Eyes! It's De'Ja'Vu all over!! I miss Clint! (his eyes are blue, too!) So Far-Here's a little Christmas!
