Wow, just finished 3 days of pruning most of the roses -at least the ones in the garden, still have to prune the 4 in the front of the house.   I really need to go to one of those rose pruning classes that some of the nurseries have.  Just have never made the time to go.  I'm probably doing it all wrong all these years, but I figure if I kill one by pruning it, so be it, it wasn't meant to be in my garden.  I think that's my feeling with any of the plants I have.  If they die, they are out and they usually don't get a second chance.  If it's not any easy grower, forget it.  I tried some new plants this summer.  Two of them don't look like they made it through the freezes and the wind.  (yes, it does freeze in California - some years getting into the mid 20's - but mainly staying 30-32 in Dec-Jan and sometimes Feb.  It's even snowed here in April - 2 years ago and then way back in the 90's.  But we are about an hour and a half from Mt. Lassen and 2 hrs from Mt. Shasta.  Up here we are called "the other California" -  everyone seems to think California is southern! Anyway, wish I really knew what I was doing when I prune.  Maybe this year I'll learn something new!
