Spring is 26 days away, but winter is still here in Kentucky. I've seen it snow on Derby Day, the first Saturday in May. That doesn't mean that it was welcome.
The kitty cats, Kiki and Morris don't appreciate it either.
But I've got my inside garden doing it's spring act.
Have you ever taken an intimate look inside a tulip?
Or just stared outside waiting for Spring.
All of you have a great Sunday and pray for the good of all of us. Bill Mitchell
I posted a picture of the pot of tulips that I dug and brought into the house on February 7th. Well today is February 18th, eleven days from sprouts to blooms. Here is the starting photo.February 7.
Here are the results today.
I truly beleive you could watch them grow. They are growing so fast. All six bulbs will be open by tomorrow. I just had to show off a bit today. The amaryllis are also blooming again today with their last two stalks. I'll take a picture in a couple of days and post both the tulips and the amaryllis's progress.
Today is Valentines Day. About sixteen or seventeen years ago my wife Sandy started giving me a Valentine that played Lara's Theme, "Somewhere My Love" from the movie Dr Zhivago. For the first seven years, I didn't realize she was giving me the same card. I can only say it must be a guy thing. Finally it hit me that I recognized this card. I asked her about it and the whole family laughed. Well I still get this same card every Valentines Day and I would be very disappointed if I did not. It has long ago quit playing the music, so I play that song on my computer while looking at the card and enjoying the special love I have from Sandy.
I planted a couple of pots with tulip bulbs and buried them up to the rim and covered them with mulch and leaves next to my compost pile. I did this in early November. The temperature is 60 degrees again today. I investigated the buried pots and low and behold, these shoots were coming up. I dug this one pot and brought it inside to grow and bloom early.
Today is February 07. When these flower out, I'll post the picture.
You all have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell
