April was alive and alert today, playing ball with me in the morning. Then this evening, without warning, she started throwing up. Ten times. I petted her and calmed her and as she rested, she pasted away. I still can not believe she is gone. I will always love her.
I am waiting patiently for spring and it will arrive on schedule. So I entertain myself with what we have now. This is the view of my yard from the side porch. I stepped out on to the snow in my underware and barefooted to take this picture. I couldn't wait.
I want to update the continuing saga of the amaryllis. If you remember, the first bloom came on Chrisrtmas day. They have bloomed and bloomed again. This picture was taken this morning.
The peppermint colored bloom is the third stalk from that bulb. There are two more flower buds starting again.
When I purchase amaryllis bulbs, I do it on line and I order the giant bulbs. They cost about $8 to $10 apeice, but the results are far greater then the kits that the outlet stores offer for just a little cheaper. I think I will have color until the tulips and crocuses start in March.
You all have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell
Some amaryllis buds have bloomed and died and new ones are coming on as I write. This picture shows the second bloom of the one that bloomed on Christmas. It is three and a half feet and needs to be supported. I thought it might be interesting to show all my friends here on Garden Guides.
That 's a yard stick standing next to it.
You all have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell
What can I say about the promise for 2009 as it is shown in the beauty that is unfolding by the minute in our home here in Kentucky, USA. It is very uplifting in eye and spirit. We will grow stronger as the days grow longer. It will be a Happy Year.
Here is a bunch of love to all of you from Sandy and me, The Hillbilly
