We survived the bad weather all around us again last night! We had some high winds and nearly 2 inches of rain ....but all is still standing except for some branches and twigs....The last two night our area was hit with tornados not so far away...maybe 30 miles or so....no electricin towns ....total farms wiped out.....so we feel so for them and feel so blessed.....now that storm system is out of here, and we are in for cooler weather. Very welcome. Please pray for all those who have lost so much property and thank the Lord for sparing everyone's life....Thanks and Happy Sunday to you all.....Birdie

Catchfly..annual mix...zinnias...HOT and I am sitting here with the a/c and I am still sweating. We are under a tornado watch and possible thunderstorms until 12 midnight, and it surely feels like it could come. Tonight we went to our grandson's baseball tournament game and their team won..5-1. Our Grand was catcher and played a great game. It was so hot.....I felt for him under all that gear...he was sweating up a storm. He is in 6th grade. Then we all went and ate some Chinese. Great food!! Stopped and visited with a couple of friends we knew, and then came on home. I did some pruning of my mums today...also transplanted a couple of zinnias that had come up in my annual mix seeding and a cardinal vine or cypress vine.....(not sure which it is....had both last year). Last night I figured out what my one kind of flower that self sowed from last year. It is Catchfly....Silene ? Anyway it is a pretty bright purple/magenta color, and it was so good to get it figured out. I put it in G.G. identification and they did help me along.......I did find a picture and writing that explained it perfectly. I knew right away........"THIS IS IT!" Gotta go and find the chair near the fan.......Have a great weekend all. Birdie in Iowa
Good afternoon all our gardening sisters and brothers. I have been putting a few pics of Washington D. C. trip in my photos...not finished yet but getting started. We went to all the War Memorials and so I took lots of pictures.....will post just a few of them and of the beloved Capital Building.......very beautiful structure as are so many there........I LOVED THE TRIP! It was especially moving because we were with so many veterans and their wives.......so we had that in common and it was so very good! Been raining here alot and this afternoon we saw this glow.........it was the sun and some blue sky and white billowy clouds........looks great! We are very fortunate not to have some of that awful flooding so many areas have.....so we are so very blessed..........did some deadheading.....liking the many blooms.. My day lilies are starting to bloom and my Lollipop lily is in full bloom mode....so beautiful! They bloom on the edges of my raspberries.....so they are sorta interspursed with them. But it is fine........Guess I am running out of room. Have another rudebeckia added too.......but it is an annual one.........called Becky's Mix.....bright yellow blooms on this mini plant. Truly bright and pretty! Better go and chat with my friend now........Take care and Happy Gardening all.........SMILE! Birdie
Jun 12, 2010 | 5:44 AM PST Howdy again.....we are back from our vacation to D. C. and boy did we have a great time there. We went with other veterans and so enjoyed the time with them. It was very emotional at the Memorials....especially the Viet Nam wall as we had a fella who had lost his brother there. Saw lots of beauty and much history. I was so impressed with it all. I loved seeing the Capital and Mt. Vernon was so beautiful. Got to go to Gettysburg and heard about the battles etc.. Well I have to run and go to work again. "Back to reality". Getting rain every day here.......inches and inches. so been planting some stuff and transplanting.......should get a great start. Bye now.. Birdie
