No luck on fizzleing of the rains.........it misted all day today........but we are hopeful for the sun tomorrow and possibly 50 degrees........that would be great for the trick or treaters wouldn't it? I worked today at Dollar General as she had extra hours and so I just used them.......Nice on payday. I do enjoy keeping busy at work.......time flies by while we are having fun.......right? I find some workers seem to try to get out of work and watch the clock....heheeeeeee Clock never moves when you keep your eye on it! Not much else happening....Here is today's quote for the day.. "Not what we give, but what we share, For the gift without the giver is bare... James Russell Lowell "Birdie"
IIt's raining again here in the northwest part of Iowa.......played some football playoffs in the rain tonight. It started about 7:30 tonight. We had a wonderful day of no rain and some breeze.......nice weather ....no sun. But at least the farmers are in the fields harvesting....well they were anyway....I am sure they are out now.....as it is raining and so too wet to do the beans or corn. But it was nice they had a couple of nice days to get some finished. Looks like to the west of us in South Dakota......a huge storm is coming and they are saying 6-15 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow........thank goodness we are in the RAIN area! Always something to be happy for! Had to lead at Coffeebreak Bible Study today.......it was a very good lesson.....then did lunch with daughter and got my groceries for the week and came on home and did a bit of laundry. Also am busy doing my album with my summer flower pictures. I just print them off with the printer and cut them and to town I go making the album pages. I did one of my glad pics tonight........called it.......A GLAD LAND........turned out cute.........hope all is well with my gardening friends........Have a nice peaceful sleep and wake up to cheer someone along lifes pathway.........Hugs... HEHEEEE Thanks to those of you who are sharing about their sunshine........we will get some.......just not sure when........glad the sun is shining somewhere!! :) Had my mamogram this morning and then had two coffee drinkers .......it is great when it is cloudy.......to be able to enjoy sharing over a cup of coffee........must have been in the cards this morning as I had just called the neighbor to see if I could run there for coffee.....so had to call her right back and get a rain check on that coffee! Seems we were thinking coffee time today.....This afternoon been working on a couple pages in my photo album. Finished a page of my niece and her first solo flight in Civil Air Patrol........and of my mom's 86th birthday! Now I am taking a break and just telling my stuff of today........Spread a little sunshine around today and make another person feel happy and loved! God bless u all......."Birdie"

A cool Tuesday morning near in Iowa. But at least no snow at present. I like the snow in winter.......just hard to adjust to it in the early days of Oct. Went to work yesterday and the store was only 57 degrees.......seems Corporate hasn't changed the A/C back to heat.....so we worked in sweatshirts and some wore gloves. A couple of customers left.....too cold to shop they said.......yeah I thought it was rather cool to be working too....LOL So I hope they get that fixed soon. Off with my dad for a check up today and so won't be back for a couple of days. Praying for good roads and good check-up on his eyes too! So I suppose I better not get too long winded here.....as I can tend to do so very easily. Thanks all for your tips on apples and peeling etc. I know those tools are nice....when your apples are smooth etc...these needed extra digging out runs and such but it is all worth it in the end. As I said.......I really had the best of the deal and wouldn't trade the day for anything! Our daughter said as we were leaving on Sunday afternoon. "Mom thanks for all the applesauce!" (Those comments make it all worth the effort don't they? She is not quick to offer a thank-you...so it was a GREAT comment! One that makes it all worth the doing.. Gotta run........have a great few days all.......Birdie

Applesauce
Good Afternoon to all the Garden people around the world. Here visiting in Nebraska we had Oct's winter threat. Did get a dusting of the white beauty.....now that has melted and it is chilly but oh how nice to have the sunshine. All are doing cattle chute work this morning and I think they are running into the afternoon....so I have been here doing some apple peeling and microwaving into apple sauce. Smells pretty good here! I really think I have the better part of the deal......I don't have to do the applesauce....but wanted to make myself useful....so did a bag full this morning and taking a break and will start the other bag soon. Just needed to give my peeling hand a break. We took the apples along to share with our daughter and family....helping my parents rid themselves of the countless apples on the trees! At their age....sometimes it gets to be overwhelming for them. How much applesauce do you need in the freezer at their ages?? They have more than enouogh! :) I will do just enough for fresh eating but hey....my freezer is full of meat and so I don't have much room for the wonderful sauce.. I love it....can eat it every meal....but I guess I will use from last years freezing and just eat some fresh and maybe an apple crunch or two and call it good this year. I might put the drawer in my fridge full....for fresh eating too.....:) Yes I love apples.......anyway! Well I better get to peeling again. Happy Sat. to all.......whatever you happen to be doing. Enjoy it! Birdie
Wow..........I stepped outside a bit ago and my........that autumn smell just hit my nose with a flair........it is a crisp cool night....it is already down to 38 degrees.......so we might get that freeze tonight....I guess we can expect it...we have had frost on the roofs and a bit below but not much to speak of. But tonight.....it just might do it's thing.....and bring FROST on the pumpkin and everything else in sight. I do love that smell though.....and curling up with an afghan and a cup of hot chocolate.......Yummy.. Did a bit of deadheading of my zinnias this afternoon....pulled a couple out that just didn't meet my expectations any more.....they yelped with hurtful pride but I said "It's ok girlie....you did well and bloomed just great.....I hate to see you look so sickly!" LOL Yes it might be my last deadheading.....if the freeze is hard enough tonight. I am ready to clean things up anyway.....the niceness is off everything except the mums of course.......they look great and if it doesn't freeze too hard........they will keep on ablooming for awhile...we will see.........well folks it is time for me to go to bed.....going to Nebraska for the weekend and I need to get my rest....and get ready to go tomorrow....enjoy the fall smells and colorful beauty.. God bless you all. "Birdie"

Mums in the house
Here it is ....nearly a week into October already! My~~ the time just whizzes by doesn't it? We have had lots of rain the last few days.....tomorrow sunny, and nearly 70.......that will be GREAT! 48 degrees today with rain..rain..rain. Thanks all for the kudos on the mums........they just do their thing, and we are blessed by an array of wonderful blooms. I brought some into the house this noon to enjoy them here too! Always nice those last blooms of the season........they are SOOOOOOOO appreciated! Farmers want to get into the fields and get that harvesting finished.....but now it is much too wet....Thursday's forecast is more rain.......I think right now I am glad I am not married to a farmer with beans and corn to harvest! Great crop out there........hope they can get it inside before the snow flies! Much too early for that! Well ourvgrandson sent us a letter and he is surviving Basic Training.....good to hear from him.....very upbeat~ so that is GREAT! Nice to hear that he thinks it is good and worthwhile.. Good night all........Enjoy October.........:) Birdie
