Does anyone have any experience with harvesting Red Zinger Hibiscus for tea? Need to know if the flowers will bloom large, and when I need to harvest them for the tea.... or, do I actually harvest the seed pod for the tea?? First time growing these.... not sure what to expect, so I am looking for all the info I can find!! Thanks!!
I've been planting my garden, and also getting ready for the Plant Sale next month (May 12)...trying to hurry before the grandbaby arrives (May 1 we hope)! Also have another daughter, Ginny, who is getting married June 9….in Auburn, AL! So much good stuff going on! :)
Ok, I planted some green beans, lima beans, speckled butterbeans, tomatoes, peppers, squash, melons, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, radishes, arugula, and Japanese cucumbers in the garden! Herbally speaking we have basil, oregano, lemongrass, catnip, thyme, chamomile, lemon balm, all kinds of mints....just having a blast in the garden lately! SOOOO glad winter is gone!! Anyone care to share what you have planted so far this year??

My first salad from the fall crop that was COMPLETELY from my garden! (except of course for Newman's Own Vinaigrette!) Even the sprinkling of nuts (Georgia pecans) came from my yard! There was: arugula, purple cabbage, romaine lettuce, spinich, swiss chard, turnip greens, kale, and collard greens - eight tasty greens chopped and tossed together, with CHERRY TOMATOES from my garden, as well. Wow! So cool to be able to go outside and "forage" for lunch! LOL! Next time I will try to remember to take a picture of it....lol. We (including Grandson Tommy) are going to Cagles Family Farm in Canton, GA tomorrow, and expect to have a great time! I hope Everyone has a glorious Fall Weekend! debbie :)
It's gonna be another beautiful fall weekend in North Georgia! I plan to hit a fall festival with my grandson tomorrow, then work on putting some more bulbs in the ground...daffodil, tulip, crocus, star of david, and the like....all of these were brought from Marietta in the move and I never got around to putting them in the ground at the new place. However, I did finally get all the garlic planted, and some is already poking up! I've also been bringing some plants in, a few at a time - in anticipation of cooler weather to come! I don't want to be caught having to do them all at the last minute as I have in the past! And, it's so much nicer to have some organization! (I'm not good at that most of the time :) ) Everyone have a wonderful weekend! debbie

I just sat down and checked my messages on gardenguides...wow....sorry ya'll. I really didn't think i'd been gone that long! LOL! Been so busy with the market i guess everything else just went out the window! My garden is doing well, considering i don't have a lot of space, i have a lot of things in pots....tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, greenbeans (they are in the ground) and cucumbers, even a few melon vines, we'll see if they pan out.....i've been meaning to buy a farm...LOL...sure would like to have more space, i am running out of room......of course i'd use every bit of it, or die trying...LOL! K gotta run but i am going to try to be on here more often! Thanks for missing me, you know who you are! deb
Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. Been very very busy, and just have not had time to sit down and blog too much....Been doing the market almost every Saturday, plus i work a full-time job during the week....i must be crazy! LOL! It's raining in Marietta, GA today which gives me a chance to catch up on a lot of inside stuff....including sitting down and talking to everyone! Figs are coming in, my neighbor lets me snitch gallons....they don't eat too many of them....so i made Fresh Fig Cookies....yum! I had to make more, because i could not stop eating them as i was baking them...LOL....anyhow those went over really well yesterday at market!! Gonna try for fig cake this week, and apple cake too, a friend of mine has two apple trees and has given me some of the bounty! Anybody got a good recipe they'd like to share for either one of those? (fig or apple cake) I know i can find one online or in one of my many cookbooks....just thought someone might have an out of this world recipe! Email me if you do, or post it here.
I hope everyone is having a fabulous 2009 gardening season....i finally have a few good veggie plants going....my soil is not the best, due to the pecan trees, and i have to constantly amend....i think i finally amended enough this time...LOL. Well on to other things.....oh FYI all locals: The Marietta City Council recently voted to extend the Marietta Square farmer's market through December! Wowee!

I seem to have not had time lately to blog! Getting ready for the Farmer's Market, which opens this weekend in Marietta, GA....Saturday, May 2, 9am to 12noon. I will be there with bells on.....well, at least with herbs! Hope to see you locals there, it will be great! Opening day is always exciting, as the vendors get to see each other, and you, after a long absence! I enjoy the social aspect as much as the actual making money! For anyone coming, they are having the Arts & Crafts festival, too, so look for the Farmer's Market on the Mill St. end, down by the coffee shop and the railroad tracks! That is where they put us when there's something else going on. Can't wait to see you! HAVE AN HERBY DAY!! debbie
