We still have so much to do to get our Entry Garden done. I can't finish planting until we get the hardscaping done. Besides the flagstone paths, we need to build stacked stone retaining walls, create our pondless fountain, and install irrigation and lighting. Whew! In the meantime I plant annuals to fill in the empty spaces. Our first sunflower almost reaches the roof!
We had a new door installed and painted it ember red. DH is re-attaching the door handle in the picture above. Last year we painted the house (but haven't finished the trim) and replaced the light fixtures and house numbers with styles that make more of a statement.
Right behind the sunflower is a pink rose bush. It seems to enjoy the protection from the heat that the big sunflower leaves provide. The light this morning spotlighted a singular bloom so beautifully that I snapped a picture of it for my computer desktop.
You can right-click it and save it as your desktop background if you wish.

After all the heat we've been having, the rain yesterday was a welcome change. It took us by surprise as it wasn't in the forceast. So I was able to simply enjoy the garden and not work in it.
But today, I'm itching to get our there.

I saw raccoons in our backyard for the first time today. I was coming out of the shed when I heard this kind of chortling sound. Three raccoons were strolling single file along the pathway leading to the sideyard. My camera was hanging around my neck and I thought "What luck!" I aimed and pushed the button. Nothing! "out of memory" it said. Drat!
I wonder if they're a danger to my cats.
