I finally got to harvest garlic!!!! it seemed like it was never going to be ready. It did not do as well as i expected it, but it was my first time. So....i cant wait to do it all over again.
weather was finally nice today and i was able to check out the damage =(
we had golf ball size hail on thursday, and pea size on friday, saturday/sunday were rainy days....the majority of the lettuce leaves were damaged, and so was the broccoli...i took out the most of the lettuce.
i also decided to plant marigolds around the bed cause i've noticed an increase in bugs!!!!
i cant believe how much i've got growing!!! i was looking at the first pix i took and what i have now, and....wow!!! we've already had lettuce, and i love listening to my girls talk about eating mommys garden...too cute =)

it started as a beautiful day today and then the t-storms rolled in, crazy thunder, lightning and tons of rain. its relaxing to just sit there and listen to the rainfall, even if there is thunder to go with it! more to come tomorrow!!
i look at my garden bed and cant believe that im growing all these veggies myself!!
Just last week i was in a panic because we got two nights of below freezing temps and some snow. i covered them up as best as i could and i was glad that they all survived!!!
i also placed my tomato plant in the topsy turvy today. last year my tt did pretty good and had lots of fruit, hope this year goes the same! my girls love helping around the garden, they planted the majority of the onions and help water it all the time.

My daughter came home from school with what she said was a sweet pea..she was so cute, she's excited about having her own plant and wants to water it all the time!!
i finally got my hubby to build the garden bed for me....and i've already planted out some lettuce, broccoli, onions and carrot seeds. its my first veggie garden so i really have no clue as to what im doing, i go by what i read online and notes i've taken..
i had to sorround it with netting to keep the squirrels away! If there's anything else i should do or is more effective, please let me know!!!
**Update 4/20/10**
I noticed some carrots are sprouting now...i saw a few late last week, but there was a lot more of them today!!!
last october i planted about 6 types of hardneck garlic..i was bummed because i didnt think it was going to give...but it has been sprouting and i cant wait to harvest it this summer =) I'm even more excited about it because this is the first thing i plant!!!
Anxious for spring to get here and to start what will be my first vegetable garden! I started my seedlings mid to late february and i've enjoyed watching them sprout! I remember acting like a kid when i came home one day and the tomato seed had sprout!!!! I've got tomato, broccoli, peppers, and onions started...waiting on the hubby to build my raised bed so i can get the lettuce going.
