I am so proud of my garden this year. I am growing silver queen corn, 3 types of tomatoes, kale, collard greens, cantaloupe, kentucky pole beans, okra, carrots, 3 types of peppers, spinach, radishes 2 types of onions and cucumbers. Each year, I try to grow a new vegetable; this year, it's okra, and onions. Last year, it was sweet potatoes. Not bad for a city girl from Maryland!!! I am also growing spinach and onions in containers for the first time. They seem to be doing better in containers than in the ground.
I just love to watch my garden grow. I normally start my planting late March to mid-April. In the spring, I plant the cool weather vegies like spinach, radishes and onions.
For the past 2-3 years, I have been starting from seed. I find it to be cheaper and the seeds normally come in more varieties than the plants. When I see that seedling emerge from the soil, I get soo excited.
Every year, my garden seems to grow. I started out with only 3 plants a few years ago; tomatoes, spinach and snow peas. Now, I have a total of 15 plants and that is only the vegies!!!
My flower garden is impressive also. I grow marigolds (old favorite), vincas (sp) and tulips. I try out different flowers also. I go to my favorite garden store (Valley View Farms) and look around for bright, colorful small to medium sized plants. I will be adding some new flowers soon!!
