Took pictures of all my flowers today. The mosquitoes here are nasty, I don't like wearing shoes out in the yard but they make it so I have to! Any who, I'm quite impressed with my calla lilies (I planted them for Josh, my hubby). Before I started them I asked my dad about how to go about planting them and he said to give them tons of water, that I couldn't drown them even if I tried. So that's what I did. I got a shallow plastic container and I covered the bottom with soil and then filled it about halfway up with water. Then I put the bulbs in. That was about a week, maybe a week and a half ago. Out of eight bulbs there are only two that haven't done anything yet. The rest have little sprouts on them and I'm so excited, but I don't know where to plant them yet. The one that's been doing the best I actually put into a pot (it's my profile pic). I hope that moving it from basically a 80% water/20% dirt environment to a 80% dirt/20% water will help it grow even more. I figured since it started out in so much water, that I'll give the plant a good soak about two times a day and leave it on the porch so it continues to get lots of sun. It was kind of fun starting these bulbs out this way instead of just sticking them in the ground.

I'm still worried about my peonies. About the second week we lived here I had Josh dig them up so I could plant them by the porch. I think we lost a lot of their roots. At least they haven't gotten any more worse. If that's any sort of hope. I did some research on them and basically what I found was that peonies are very sturdy plants once they are established. My dad and I figured (judging by their roots) that the peonies had been by the garage for at least a couple of years so this summer they'll probably look pretty bad but next summer they should be looking fine. I debated cutting off the tops of them so they could just concentrate on getting their roots sorted out and all that but my dad said it wouldn't matter. After I planted them I watered them quite well for about a week then I stopped. I read that doing that would help them "get established". Of course then it rained pretty heavy after that. But like I said, they haven't gotten any worse.

Hopefully I'll get around to planting my morning glories tomorrow. If I do, there will be plenty of more pictures to come!

We've just had a bunch of rain where I live. I left my little aloe vera plant outside the whole time too. It doesn't seem to have grown much since I got it last summer. Although recently it has grown to a sickly brown color, which worries me. I've been trying to find out information about aloe vera plants and why this might be happening to mine. (Hence the discovery of this site :) ) I think that the plant may have gotten over watered (since it is a potted plant, but it does have adequate drainage) my husband thinks it's fine and that the problem isn't over watering. I just don't know what else it would be. Hopefully I'll get my camera back soon and I'll upload some pics of the plant to show exactly what I mean. I don't know if anyone will read this or not, but hopefully someone with some knowledge of aloe vera plants will and know what I'm talking about and maybe leave a suggestion of what do to for my plant. (I have a feeling my hubby will be loving the plant this summer since he gets sunburned at work all the time. :) )
