I had a post all written out, and got a phone call and got signed out...........sooooooooo drats it...it is off in cyber space floating around...
anyhooooooooo I am wondering what everyone is doing in their gardens this week?? my veggie garden is growing the corn is growing and so is the okra and zukes...
the flower beds got some new babies in them...I got a lovely new hibiscus plant it has multi colored blooms on it...really pretty..NOW please dont take this is gospel, because it was just something told to me..but I was told if a hibiscus has dull leaves instead of shiny leaves you can winter them in zone 7, the tag on my new one said down to 30 degrees, so we shall mulch deeply and also watch the weather and cover up the sweet baby...hehehe I also got 3 new hostas..I like hostas, they are pretty..I dont care for their flowers but the leaves are gorgeous.. these are verigated leaves and just lovely I got two smaller ones just alike and a larger leafed one that is also a larger plant..
Last week I transplanted some of my herbs to a long planter that I can bring inside during the winter...next spring I will have a herb bed too..excited about that...my yard is getting too small for all my plans...LOL

well it was only about 90 today and a nice nice breeze...LOL but the cooler weather took me to Lowes...and some plants were bought...and planted...I have a flower bed that is shaded and gets some sun but not much..so I put 3 hostas in there..I had impatients in there this summer but they didnt do well (I did pot them up in a pot cant bear to throw away any living plant LOL) then we moved a azelia that was getting too much sun over under the shade tree too next to the fence..and we planted a hibiscus there..it has all different colored blooms on it...we will have to keep a eye on the temps because it wont tolerate anything under 30 degrees but it is in a place we can easily shelter it..I love planting and tweaking my flower beds...LOL...so did you all do any planting or gardening this weekend with some of the cooler weather..
Been having to water my garden, but the poor little garden was just really hot soooooooooo being the good momma I am I got out all of my umbrellas (two patio and two beach) and put one in each corner and made the garden a shade..and it is looking so much happier...I was afraid my fall garden was going to burn up but I think it may make it..just gotta keep watering it...
I have green beans up and actually have baby beans, have corn up and okra and zukes...pepper plants are still alive and have a bell on of them...but my other pepper plant hasnt done much..
I am ready for fall.........so ready for fall so I can plant my new blueberry bushes and prepare my new raised bed for next year (I am doubling the size of my raised bed...ohhh and I am going to prepare a herb bed too...just ready for fall and cooler temps..
someone is going to have to save me from myself...hehehhe I got a Park Seed Fall Catalog today...I want at least one of nearly everything, EXCEPT irises and daffodils (I dug up soo many of them cleaning out my flower beds here)..Right on the top of my list is a bicolored butterfly bush...ohhh my goodness it is so gorgeous..sooo sooo pretty..ohh and they had some gorgeous looking blueberry bushes in there too..I love blueberry bushes...and I want 3 more to add to my two I have I really like blueberries YUMMO...
Today I examined where I planted the marigolds and coleus and chives that were packaged for 1982 I saw little sprouts coming up where the marigolds were planted, nothing yet where the coleus is planted and there is something coming up in one of the chive pots but I dont think it is a chive...going to have to do some research of what they look like as babies..LOL
I am addicted I admit it, I cant stop planting seeds, I get in the freezer (which is where I keep all my seeds)and find more seeds...and just keep on planting...Saturday I planted some okra and some zucchinni seeds, Friday I planted some chive seeds and some coleus seeds and some marigold seed pods (they were from my stash I was given from my fil after he passed away) OHH and the interesting thing..the seeds I planted on Friday were dated that they were packaged for 1982...hmmm they have been kept in the freezer that is where he always kept them so I keep them there too...I keep going to look to see if I see any little plants coming up...of course it was JUST Friday soooo nothing yet...but I will keep you all updated...
sooo I have a feeling that this winter will be a time of planting inside in flats for the garden for spring...and ohhh I can hardly wait until fall, when the berry bushes get put out for sale...I am going to add 3 blueberry bushes and a peach tree. I have two blueberry bushes already but want to add to those. I have blackberry bushes and a grape vine too but I am probably not adding to those..not this year anyhoo.
I think I may need a 12 step program...wonder if there is a Planters Anonymous..LOL or maybe Gardeners Anonymous...LOL
I can sit for hours and read online at gardening sites, but I was just reflecting on a book I have that is so enjoyable for me, it is connected to childhood memories..that book is the Ball Blue (oops had that wrong there before) Canning Book, my mom has one and she would get it out to check out how long to process things...well I wanted one bad..but my frugal (dh says cheap) side rose up and I just couldnt pay full price for it BUT I was sooo excited last year when they started clearancing the seasonal items there it was on clearance for 1.00 woohooo I was too happy...bought it..and have read it over and over..it is so much fun to read the recipes and about canning..
Another great read for me is a Gardening Book i have from Better Homes and Gardens I love the thing, in fact I keep it and the pruning book right beside my bed...LOL night time reading..LOL
Sooo wanna share some of your favorite gardening/preserving books??
When I was a kid, my mom would nearly have to spank me to make me work in the garden I hated IT!!! But it seems that she passed on her green thumb to me, and the older I get the more I love gardening, veggie and flowers..I have a raised bed, which will be doubled in size this fall and then lots of flower beds too...I really enjoy gardening and reading about gardening...I look forward to being on this site..
